Question Crack in door window of '06 mega cab

My passenger rear door window has a crack in it. One pane of the laminated glass is cracked and it snakes clear across the window. It was fine this morning and nothing happened to the window during the day - the door wasn't even opened. Has anyone else had something like this happen? I think it must have been defective glass however I know it would never be warrantied.

Glass shop is quoting me $600 for a new window installed.

Bring it in and have the dealer replace it under warranty. You're not the first to have this happen.

Yes, you're not the first one. Search and you will see that there were many with the same problem. Warranty should cover it.

Yes, warranty will cover it......BUT..........depending on your dealer, they may/may not be familiar with the problem. I printed the other thread on this and took it with me. They had never heard of the problem, but, in the end, it was covered under warranty.

My Drivers window did it the first day I owned it. Take a good look at it and you can tell that nothing hit it. Mine was replaced under warranty without question I even got a loaner truck while they ordered the glass. Did I mention I have an excellent dealer.

Mine has cracked as well... They will not warranty because my truck 18000 miles and the glass warranty is only 12months or 12000 miles. I told them its a know problem and they said that there is a tsb about but DC denied it because of the 12 month b.s. HELP

Isn't the 12 months 12,000 miles thing only for parts that can be abused and torn up by people not driving right? Clutches, brake pads... I don't think glass falls into this category. I would think that every part falling into the 12mo/12K warranty would be listed somewhere in the fine print and they would have to show you "window glass" in there. Glass should fall under the 3/36 bumper to bumper deal. Your dealer is trying to pull a fast one on you. What else can you do but keep hammering at them? Maybe print up this message and ask them why DC is warrantying this @ other dealers after 12,000 miles but not theirs....

I wonder how much market share these DC jokers are going to lose when a company that really cares about taking care of customers like Toyota starts building Caterpillar powered medium duty trucks?

I had the glass go in both front doors before the truck was 4 month old. One was replaced under warranty by my dealer in Ottawa Ontario, the other by a dealer in McAllen TX, also under warranty. Interesting that my Ottawa dealer replaced it with laminated glass, just like the original, but the TX dealer replaced it with tempered glass. Couldn't find out why the difference, but supposidly the tempered is less likely to crack.

The dealer thinks its wrong. DC said the 12mon or 12k deal. I am going to show the SM this thread and see what transpires.

Same Problem at 30000 km's

I had the same problem at about 30 000km's on my 07, the dealership fixed it on warranty no questions asked. Apparently it is caused by the window being gripped to tightly by the clamp that slides on the track inside the door. They said it happens on about 45% of the new trucks. Mine happened when I hit a rather huge hole on an ice road at work this winter. They should replace it as long as there is no sign of an impact in the window just cracks that start around the bottom.

Glass installer showed me how the clamp on the bottom of the glass caused the break. My local dealer (Dallas Dodge) got out of replacing it by playing dumb. They said that they had never seen "this" before and it was "probably caused by someone trying to break into the truck". This is a big dealership, give me a break.
