Clutch upgrade
Clutch upgrade
I have a 2002 Dodge 2500 6sp HO, and I put an edge comp box on it and my clutch is slipping. I want to get a new clutch and I want one that will take pretty much what ever I can throw at it because I have alot more I am going to do to the truck. Does anyone have any suggestions? If you do do know know where I can get it?
Southbend clutch

Yep, go to South Bend Clutch's website and call Peter. Tell him your horsepower aspirations and if you tow, or want to do sled pulls, drag race or whatever and he'll recommend the right clutch for you. Good luck,

I just had a SouthBend Con FE put in, and I'm very pleased overall. It's a bit grabby on the launch but not bad at all. If I towed all the time, I'd probably want something with a little less bite for low speed maneuvering.
This clutch is their "worst" single disc in terms of manners (it's the highest HP single disk I know of), and it's still quite good.
There may very well be a better-than-South Bend clutch out there, but I wasn't able to find it or hear about it in 4 years of diesel site addiction. At least not for my usage as a non-towing, non-sledpulling, daily driver type.
I think if you ask around, you'll find a lot more people that like South Bend than those who don't. And the number of people who feel like the above poster and have a contract out on Peter himself are quite rare indeed.
This is not to say that there isn't a better clutch out there, or that South Bend can do no wrong. Hardly! South Bend is human and they will make mistakes. I think you'll discover that they do a pretty good job of atoning for them when possible. Heck, they'll often go above and beyond to help fix a problem they didn't cause (installation error, etc).
Do your own reading and decide for yourself if South Bend deserves your trust.
Heck, CALL them and see if they can earn your trust. If you don't feel like you can trust them, move on-- there's more than one fish in these waters. Plenty of guys running other clutches and having good results.

im having excellent results with my LUK cerametallic, but if money allows this summer i wanna make the leap to the big hp range and get a south bend DD that can handle a couple sled hooks and boosted 3rd gear launches

i pulled an SBC CON FE out of an 01 thats nowhere near the 550 mark the clutch is rated for. 3/4 of the springs were trashed, and the heat damage was pretty insane...i didnt slip much ill give it that, and the reason we pulled it was a broken input shaft. btw the clutch was in the truck for 6 months and never sled pulled
So did you call Peter and give him a chance to make it right?
But really there's only a handfull of clutches availible for our trucks unless you go to a local clutch shop for something custom. Even more than their quality, Southbend is known for their great customer service after the sale. Besides that there's a couple luk clutchs, Haisley sells a few, the new unproven Zoom clutch, and thats about it.
