A/C clutch replacement

The fan clutch on my truck has started to rattle bad, according to NAPA the clutch is not available seperate but according to Dodge it is. NAPA wants $240 for a reman compressor vs Dodge $198 for the clutch only. Is the clutch a pain to replace? Can it be done in truck? This is the first vehicle I ever owned that has A/C, the rest have been Scout II's and I just took the top off . In the interim I'm going to NAPA and picking up a new belt for a CTD w/o A/C since right now I still have the winter front down and don't think I will be needing it for a while.

A/C Clutch

There are no reman clutch assemblies available for the a/c comp.

I went through this not long ago on a buddy's truck. Dealer for clutch assy, or complete compressor from aftermarket. I took a chance and got a used one off ebay that was a newer model than his, so far so good-- it works after not running 5 months.

I bought the driven plate from a vendor in Fort Worth Tx for my 95. They would sell me any part I wonted. The entire clutch assembley or just parts. If you wont the number I will get it. They did sell on ebay.

If your bearings went out of the clutch it most likely damagerd the front nose of the compressor, if the hub went out of the compressor then you most likely have a blockage problem,( High Pressure)and will require more work . you can buy a New Original Compressor for 199.00.
PM me and i will give you details.

I bought a a/c clutch from the local dodge dealer and had it installed by a mechanic buddy. Didnt have to drain the system, so I didnt lose any refrigerant. I dont remember the cost of the clutch, but it wasnt too bad or else I wouldnt have done it. Bret

I just replaced the whole compressor for $248. I figured it had 177k on it that it just needed it.
