brakes and cold

do any of your trucks howl when cold and you step on the brakes cause mine does and to me -11 @ 6am is cold

Yes, the vacume/power seering pump (they are connected together) will howl when cold. Kind of scary the first few times.

If it is the power steering pump, some have had good luck changing the fluid over to a semisynthetic like valvolene durablend power steering fluid. Others have used an additive (don't remember the name) in the steering fluid.

The noise is worse with brakes applied due to the increased demand for vacume. Do a search on both vacume pump and power steering, and you should come up with some more info. If the fluid levels are normal, not much to do about it besides what has been mentioned.

Remove a little PS fluid and add back a like amount of Lube-Gard Power Steering treatment.
Problem solved.
Lube-Gard is carried by most autoparts.
