i lost my lower turbo on my little truck. it was brand new in the box when i put it on. it is a BHT3E made by borg warner pn# 172035 sn model G1004 485 . this turbo never builds any boost till 3k and i just find it hard to belive that i lost the oil seals on it so fast. i built this set of twins to have 0 boost at 65 mph and that is exactly what i got. so 99% of the time the big turbo is doing absolutly nothing. any idea what caused it to fail so early???
and i pulled a ht60 out of my shed and it looks to be a direct swap for my bht3e, but it has a good bit smaller inducer than my bht3e. so i am reluctant to use it. the ht60 is supposed to be a updated bht3e as i understand it but i am not 100% sure. any one know for sure and where to get the best price on a new turbo???????????

I'm thinking you have a restriction in your oil drain tube and/or too much crankcase pressure. Both will force oil past the turbo shaft, even on a brand new turbo.
For example I had this happen on my turbo eclipse, and it turned out the PO had clamped the valve cover vent tube shut by using a ricer type filter.
Soon as I fixed that I wasn't mosqito fogging anymore. lol

You need a better filter! The BHAF IS really a pretty lousy filter even for a stock truck let alone a twin powered truck. You need to get a good filter on there that can flow some cfm's.

thats how my eclipse was, would put out a bunch of smoke only after running up to higher rpms at WOT. Then when you let off the throttle it would start smoking.

i would have thought that but i was blowing oil out my exhaust side also.

well i pulled the turbo apart and every thing checked out. i was going to rebuild it, but everthing looked new. i did find a kink in the drain line from the turbo to the pan. and it didn't seem to be that bad. but it must have been, i put the truck back together and all is well. i bent a piece of 3/4 " copper and slid it inside the drain hose so it can never colapse again. thanks for the ideas, i just wish i had found the drain line before i pulled everything apart.
If it wasnt collapsed all the way then it should still have worked. I never have understood why turbos only need a 1/16th in. hole for a feed line then they have massive drain lines. Thats the way all the race cars are.
