Banks
Banks
Just curious. Does anyone have any Banks aftermarket products installed on their trucks? If so, are you satisfied with their products, performance, etc..? Thanks, Buzz
Re:Banks
Not that there is anything wrong with banks but you can get alot more power from your truck while spending half the money. If you want good advice on how to turn your truck up ask here its a great place plus we will not try to sell you anything except good knowledge and the occasional scotty 2 you'll learn more on that as your research comtinues. For starters why not visit my personal vendor of choice Here
Re:Banks
It is obvious that there are less expensive ways to get more power than by going with Banks. (Although it appears to me that if someone is looking to upgrade their exhaust the pricing on Banks 4" stainless steel system is very competitive.)
Banks achieves their power gains by providing upgrades to the intake (quick spool turbo) and exhaust side (4” stainless) of the engine along the timing and fuel (Ottominder) and they provide gauges to monitor your engine. What you will get is an increase in performance; however their product is engineered to stay within the safe working limits of the trucks drive train. By definition then they are not going to be the most powerful upgrades you can buy. If you want to race or pull, Banks is obviously not who you would chose. If on the other hand you want something to move a trailer down the road, haul a load of wood or go hunting in, I would not dismiss Banks simply based on cost. Having a complete system that was engineered to work together has value to me. My experience with Banks has been that the complete kit arrived when they said it would, it contained clear concise instructions, required no additional parts or fabrication and went together fairly smoothly. When the installation was complete there was a noticeable increase in power. Wanting just a little more I installed rv 275s. That also made a noticeable increase in power. The above setup was able to take my lift pump pressure (measured at the VP44) to -0-. So I installed larger banjo bolts and fittings and a pusher pump. Over all I am happy with the setup and it does what I want and nothing seems to be stressed by the increase in power. If I was just starting out I would contact Rod at Wildcat and talk to him. He could get you to the same horsepower a lot cheaper and that might be the route you want to follow.

Re:Banks
I would have to agree, It is a matched system. I myself also have a full Banks system and have been somewhat happy with it. When I purchased it I was pulling a 40ft goose with A combination registration of 36,000lbs running Hotshot Freight all over the Country and needed the extra power and better fuel economy. I lucked out and found someone that took a system off his truck to trade it in on a Dura Max :'(...So I paid $1000 for everything. Now, Would I pay Banks what they are askin for a new system....HELL NO!!!. And I still had a few problems after the install that Banks were unable to figure out witch I just about got straight. There is alot out there and with the help of people on this site that have run and tested different combinations you can get alot more for your money. If you do go with Banks make sure you throw that K&N air filter they send you and your air box in the trash and go with a Scotty's 2. The weekest part of the Banks is air intake, They expect you to pull all your air thru the air box and that one small hole in the inner fender, Wrong!!! And dont try a pod filter that pulls engine heat if you live in Texas or your EGT's and power will suck when it's hot...My only advise before you buy is ask alot of questions, and I think you have found the right place. Good luck!!!
Re:Banks
I have the Monster Exhaust from Banks. It's a 4" stainless system. I really like the constant diameter bends in it instead of mandrel bent. Nice quality for the price.

The constant diameter bends are mandrel bends. This is achieved by pushing a ball through the tube as it is being bent. The other way is simply crimping one side as its bent which results in a smaller diameter in the curve.
[/quote]
Thanks for informing me on that one. I have watched pipe bending done at the local muffler shop and the bender uses mandrels. I wondered how they did that.

Re:Banks
I had a 98 12 V with a 5 speed and did the complete Banks set up. Man was I happy!!! It rocked.... I did this stuff in 98 so it has been awhile. I recently went a different route with my 2001. While the Banks was quality stuff I think it is better left for those that want to stay "in the envelope".

What I have done to my 2001 doesn't even compare to what I got from Banks but the Banks stuff wouldn't have required a new tranny either...

Re:Banks
I don't know about that, after I installed the Banks and the Trans-Go shift kit on mine I made a light run to Austin with my 40ft goose and torched the converter clutch...About 2 weeks after that I ordered a billet converter and while I was waiting on it I snaped the input shaft out of the input drum...So I ended up going thru it, which is not an issue, I have been in the Trany buis for 15 years. If your adding power on a automatic you have to put a shift kit to bump lock-up pressure and replace the converter, the backing plate the converter clutch rides against warps with heat and causes converter clutch chatter. The billet converter has an inch of steel for a backing plate so there is no issure of it warping.

I replaced my input with a stock shaft because I could not find at the time a hardened input, Now I have seen a couple of folks here with a profile that states they have a hardened input shaft in the transmission. Were do get one, Cause im sure i'll be snappin another one sooner or latter.
