This is my second auto dodge the first was a 1500 and now the 2500, both of which have no back up lights. I have checked the fuse and bulbs and can't figure out whats up. Anyone else with this prob or cure?

Chad,

I just had the same issue with my 94 2500 and it was the switch located into transmission that was faultive.Mine is a 5 speed and the switch is awkwardly located right on top of the transmission driver side..you have to first unplug the two wires connector using a small screwdriver to unsnap it open then pull it out. Then with a larger socket you will unscrew the switch ..can't remember socket size but I think it was around 18mm and has to be a deep type.Be carefull there is a skinny gasket that fits at the end of the switch ..I had dropped mine on top of the transmission and almost forgot to replace it around the new switch edge.

I first thought my old switch to be good as it was indicating continuity on the ohmeter...but it was defective as the lights worked with the new switch and weren't with the old one.
Be ready for a stiff price for the switch:112.00 canadian at NAPA!

Wow for that much I'll just put me a offroad light and a switch in the cab. Thanks for the help though, I still might look into it.

Yea, I made a custom bumper for my Scout outa channel iron and put some in it and it was great! Especially when you get those bright lighters behind you The only problem I had with those were the relays never worked quite right. I ended up having too straight wire them and if left on too long they would blow the inline fuse in them. I thought about dumping the relay idea and putting in a capacitor for all my accessories so not to put too much strain on my alt. You can get a nice one at walmart that kid's use for stereo amps for a decent price.

I had to replace that switch on my auto trans also.I could get the backup lights to sort of come on if I moved the shifter just right.Picked up a switch at Auto Zone for around 30 something dollars. That fixed it. Check around for prices.

Had the same problem with my 98.5,replaced the nutral-safety switch on the tramsmission, solved my problem. This switch also controlls the backup lights. You can use a jumper on two of the three wires, green and brown I think.Turn the key on ,If it's the neutral-safety switch, lights should work.If you change the switch,be aware that it is below the fluid level.I lost about a quart .Also don't forget the metal washer. Good Luck!
