ANYONE....Speakerbox question

I currently have a probox in my quad cab that absolutely sucks, The bass is fine, but the box is supposed to be air tight...its not I am looking for people who have made their own custom boxes or had them done so as to have something more definitive to go from when building one that sits flush and looks good. Thanx...Jamie

I have the newest probox with custom probox subs, it rocks and is some of the cleanest bass I have ever heard, I dont know if you want to try em or not but the owner of probox has a 05 dodge and he made these boxes cause the old ones were not good enough for him.

Thanx for the advice, I had seen someone on the forum at one point that had a box custom built or built it himself that fit perfectly and even had a cut-out for the amp in the center. Also the rear bench seat sat flush thus hiding the entire set-up. I wish I could recall who it was...however, I bought the probox and I am loosing all kinds of possible air space, thus affecting the overall sound. I am not a bass junky, I just want my entire system to sound and perform to its best potiential. Thanks again for the advice though, I will def look into it. Do you have any picks of your set-up (just to get an idea of what it looks like in the truck and mounted? Thanks....Jamie

I have the MTX thunderform, it sounds and fits great. I started off with a wooden type custom made box, but each speaker had it's own seperate airspace. The MTX is all one big connected/sealed container so it has way more airspace and it sounds way better! I wanted to try the probox but couldn't find anyone who sold it around me, plus I found a killer deal on the MTX on ebay!

I'm not to sure about the MTX repacing what I already have. I like consistancy and I have replaced all the door speakers with Memphis Audio as well. I think that the box you're talking about is alot like the one I have now. Its a sealed unit with the cones on the outside, however the inner is connected between the two. I'll check'em out though...thanx...Jamie

Jme, just so you know the box I have the cones are inside the box. Probox had to special make the speaker cause you have to have a long skinny cone to fit in the box to get maximum airspace and the biggest magnet.

Desertman, not nockin the mtx box, for the price it is very nice but as far as clarity, volume and droppin low the mtx doesnt hold a candle to these new probox units. They come in 2 10s rms at 500, 2 10s rms at 1000, 2 12s rms at 600 (what I have), and and 2 12s that rms at 1200.

If anybody is interested I got the owner of proboxes email and number.

I can get pics but I believer there are some up on proboxrocks.com

Just how well does your 12's sound? I was thinking about getting a probox for my truck, but the only place I found that has them only sells them with the speakers, and I am trying to find just a box. I am running 12's now on the back seat in just a regular box, but didn't know how well the pro box speakers would hold up.

Normal speaker wont fit in the probox box, like I said the magnets have to be a specific shape.

I am no speaker guru but all I did was plug in 2 wires, drop it in and run 2 selftapin screws. I had 3 JL 12w0s in my superduty in a custom box with the same amp and the 3 12s hit a little harder but IMO these 2 12s are cleaner. My sound system in my truck is all factory except for the subs and amp and I had a nice pioneer head unit in my ford.

If anybody is near my area I would be glad to let you hear em.

How did the probox cost? I can mold my own fiberglass sub box that will fit under the rear seats but it really ends up costing about the same as buying a already made box.

Thanks for the info WAP. I'd like to stay the same brand with all my speakers, however if I am going to sacrifice quality and sound as part of it, I will rethink my decision. I have 2 Memphis 10's at the moment with a JL audio 500 pushing just the subs. Thanks again....Jamie

I'd sure love to see and hear a probox in person, they look like a quality product, I just couldn't find any near me. Also, the MTX 4500 speakers that came with my box are garbage, I replaced them within 2 days with some memphis audio 10" subs, and it was night and day difference! Also the memphis audio amp didn't hurt at all either! If the probox really is that much better, I wouldn't hesitate to upgrade! Anyone near me got one that I can check out??? Also, for shallow depth subs, JL makes some W3's that are designed for shallow mounting depths. The memphis audio subs are shallow enough too, mine don't bottom out in the thunderform at all.

Hey WAP could you get me some pics of your install, the pics on the website are vague at best. I was thinking about the thunderform, but now I am changing my mind. How much was the price with the subs? Also where did you mount your amp?

thanks

Kevin

markable, any decent sized amp can be mounted behind the rear seat backs. In my old truck I mounted in underneath the drivers seat, but it overheated a lot. Mine is behine the drivers side rear seatback and no problems at all.
