Any G56 failures?
Just curious if anybody has destroyed a G56 yet.
Haven't really heard anything on how they are holding up under major power.
I'm wondering how they are comparing to the old NV5600?

I know their has been a couple destroyed G56 sledpulling but thats about all I have heard. I personaly like the G56 better then the NV5600 except for the OD ratio.
I Tow with the TST on 2/2 which is about 50 hp and 120 tq over stock and have had no problums pulling 30,000 plus (about 2/3 of my Trucks miles) Weakest link on both transmissions is the stock clutch. I have had good luck with the clutch in my 06 so far actually I can't believe it still works.

Yeah, I haven't had any trouble with mine yet other than slipping the clutch once. I just finished listening to a guy tell me how the standards in these trucks are junk and that if you wanted a strong tranny to go with a auto.
I just smiled and nodded.
Just wanted to see how they were holding up.

I had one in the 05 dually i traded in for the 03 i have now, and it completly locked up one day. Lucky for me i was slowing down on an off ramp and was only going about 45 mph, but it locked up all four of the back tires. When it did this it blew up the clutch and messed up the DMF. It was all covered under warranty but it took a while for them to get a tranny in and they didnt realize that the flywheel was messed up so when they put it all back together and i put about a hundred miles on it the clutch would not disengage. So back to the dealer it went, this the put new cylinders in everything but that didnt fix anything, they finally figured out that there was something wrong with the flywheel so they put in a new flywheel and another new clutch. There was a long article in the TDR magazine about the G56. I think I high mile trans was sent to a place that rebuilds manual truck trannies. They inspected it and talked of it's design. They said it was a great trans. They liked the design because all power and all gears was on the mainshaft. Therefore the case had much less stress on it compared to other truck transmissions. I am hoping I am recalling this information right. Maybe someone else that has been inside one of these and knows what is what can elaborate. I guess this evening I could read it and summarize the important parts & pass it on.
Southbend and some other company said the DMF can't handle a slight power increase.
I have a Superchips left on tow mode because performance mode killed the clutch asap in my 2004.5. When I get a clutch I will hit performance mode.

I know the NV5600 is a man, and too my knowledge there is not one stonger that comes in a pick up. But I do not pride myself on knowing every manual trans that was ever put in a pick up. And there is almost no sledpulling down in my area so I dont get to see what the "big dogs" are running for transmissions.
Just trying to learn a little bit...
