Aftermarket transmission coolers(?)....
After some research, it looks as though the OEM (air) trans coolers on the 2003+ Rams tend to leak around +/-100k mi. Since I plan on keeping the truck for a long time, been thinking about replacing my leaky OEM cooler w/an aftermarket cooler in hope an aftermarket will last longer and save some cash considering the OEM cooler sells for $220+. However, I have no idea what type/brand of trans cooler to go with. So far I'm considering one of the Tru-Cool LPD medium Duty 3/4 thick coolers ($70). TC claims their coolers are self-regulating in that thicker oil, below the ideal operating temperature, bypasses the cooler through the upper two plates. Then when the temperature rises, it becomes thin enough to pass through the entire cooler. Since the truck's OEM cooler has a passive low temp bypass, the TC LPD seems the way to go. Anyone running a Tru Cool LPD with good results? (Incidentally, I called the dealership to check price/availability and the parts guy mentioned the previous cooler part number had bee updated to...52028915AE. He went on to say this usually indicates a change in vendors).
