Aftermarket Headlights

Has anybody tried these headlights at Jeno's? Anybody that drives a '03 knows how bad our headlights are. I've tried HID's,E-bay China made projectors(worse then OEM). Since its dark most of the day(Alaska) during winter here,I want a headlight I can feel comfortable driving with. Hit a 1500 LB Moose and your perspectives change driving at night. Does anybody else have a upgraded headlight system that works? As far as I'm concerned, the OEM headlights are defective and should be recalled as a safety issue.
I'm just say in............
Thanks in advance

I have the Bright box with the flood light controler option which is great. I have an 03 as well. To get a taste for it, drive at night and pull the high beam switch towards you and hold it. It will activate the highs while the lows are still on. If you get the bright box with the flood light controler, it also allows the fog lights to stay on too; essentially burning all 6 lamps at the same time. Huge improvment and I havent had a single problem with mine since new 4 yrs ago. 30 minutes install but the crappy thing is the $ since you need have to buy a kit with two controllers (one for each side due to the computer / wiring system). Got mine from Genos too. Good piece of equipment if you don't want PIAAS hangin all over the bumpers. Obviouslly this won't solve the low beam issue but its nice when on backroad with no other traffic.. Good luck-

I can't see anything that uses the stock bulb being any brighter than stock. I would normaly say go with the HID's but it seems you have already tried that.Maybe some Hella's or KC's added to the front of the truck would be better.

I need lights that I can use without affecting oncoming drivers view. Nothing worse then an oncoming vehicles using HID's in OEM housings without bothering to adjust them. Every shadow along the road is a Moose, or Caribou. I will be installing aircraft landing lights on a grill guard for long distance.

I replaced the lights in our Honda and CJ7 with Sylvania Silver Star Ultra's and it was a huge difference in both vehicles. They're not that expensive either. I'm noticing on my '05 that there's not much difference between the low and high beam. I may upgrade them soon to the Ultra's. They're brighter without being obnoxious like some of the blue looking lights on the ricers and beemers.

In an earlier post, someone gave a website that clarifies info on wattage and candlepower/lumens. I couldn't find the link, maybe someone can chime in. I took their recommendations and ordered the following items from candlepowerinc.com.
Item Unit Price Qty. Cost
9005 (HB3) Bulbs: Narva® RangePower+30® High-Output 9005 (HB3) 65w Bulb $17.10 2 $34.20
Philips Xtreme Power H13 / 9008 (TWO PACK) $38.33 1 $38.33
Subtotal: $72.53
Shipping: $5.63
Tax: $0.00
Total: $78.16

They work great.

The problem with our lights is the reflector set up. In my opinion the bulbs sit too close to the reflector. I've tried setting the bulb further back with a rubber washer and the beam pattern is improved. Yet, its still a crappy beam with the light washed out all over, instead in front of you. If I was talented enough,I'd build my own headlights using available projectors w/HID. Our State Troopers are starting to crack down on people who use HID in their stock housings as well as their fog lights.

Really lol? Thats an idea...whered you come across those?

I'm in the same boat as you. I have Hid's now, and i hate having no high beam..so they're trashed. Tried the sylvania super star or what ever, the 60$ one from checker, and they arnt what i'm looking for. I'm about to just put stock lights in and get 3 or 4 kc lights and build a light bar.

The aircraft landing lights have been moved from truck to truck for bout 12 yrs. It seems like you can see for 2 miles! A car with its high beams on wouldn't dim his lights,so after the third time I flicked on the landing lights. He dimmed his lights and turned on his red and blues. The cop said he was looking for an address and was responding to a call. Did I mention he was PO'd because he was seeing stars? We were about a quarter mile distance when I high beamed him.
Back to the question,in Anchorage they have small aircraft shops on every corner downtown. I paid around $100 for both 6" round lights. Be sure and use a relay when you run the wires. I just found these lights but I'm wondering if their China junk, haven't had time to check them out.
Good Luck with your light setup.

You have any pics of your landing light set up? I might have to go looking for them.

I'm thinking of putting my old HID's in my fog lights, use the stock headlight bulbs, and just mount a few 4 or 5inch halogen lights on a bar, so i can flick them on and off, but then again if i can find you landing lights i might just use them!

I have the lights stuffed in a box some place,we just built a house and I can't find squat. The lights look like any other round aftermarket light very simular to this. Mine are in a black housing and bolt right up to anything you want. They do draw some power and will burn the snot out of you if touched. Definitely use relays and you'll have no troubles. If you have a small aircraft airport, you should be able to find the lights at a repair/parts business. If not, next time I'm in Anchorage I can stop and price a pair out for you. Let me know.

Google Daniel Stern, an automotive lighting engineer & consultant. I've bought from him for years, and his website is such that anything he writes is gold. Best place to start, though he doesn't cover every subject in above posts.

I buy from him and from SUSQUEHANNA MOTORSPORTS.

I use WEST MARINE to purchase ANCOR wiring products (USCG -approved), as terminations, etc are bulletproof.

I, too, need to do something about headlights. Were it up to me, any owner of any vehicle would be able -- by law -- to have dealer replace free these terrible plastic headlight assemblies that fade, scratch and deteriorate. At any age or mileage.

AND Mopar ought to be doing something about the Ram headlights.

see above quote. HID's are 100% illegal. The kit I bought was top of the line, with both low and high beam and put out bright white light.
