I was pretty impressed with woofersect.com, etronics.com, and caraudioimage.com. I bought from an ebay seller and they ended up only having 1 of the 3 items I purchased!! Screw ebay in my opinion. I would have saved money by purchasing all my parts from more than one other online retailer that actually has a phone number and great prices. I yanked the POS infinity system (worse sounding upgraded OEM system I have ever heard!!! I'm a loyal ford guy, and their upgrade systems like the audiophile in the F-150 is WORLDS better). I went with an Alpine 9857 headunit, Kicker ZX700.5 5 channel amp, www.proboxloaded.com single 12" custom box, Infinity Kappa 6.5 2 way speakers in the rear, Kappa 5.25" components in the front door w/ 6x9 adapter plates, and MBQuart 3.5s in the dash. I have under $1500 in the whole thing and the sound is awesome!! Blows away any OEM system, and is quite impressive for the cash outlay.

Hope this helps.

You can't use the steering wheel mount controls though can you? I'd be interested in upgrading the radio, for more features but didn't think that the steering wheel controls would transfer over to the new system.

No, you can!! Most aftermarket stereos can use OEM steering wheel audio controls with the use of an adapter. Check out crutchfield.com to get info on what you need for your truck.

I cant stand that the '05's and older, have Din and a half openeing sizes!! I am looking for an aftermarket dvd/nav unit, and found pretty decent deals on double din size head units, but being we need din and a half, prob gonna have to go with a flip out unit, and can hardley find deals on them like I find on the double din units.

If anybody can come up with a good deal on a decent flip out dvd/nav unit, and a brain to go with it, let me know, I already had the volume to max on my stock unit, (37 is highest on the volume). Would be nice to install a good unit, but man, the $1,000 or more to shell out for it, makes you listen to the stocker a little bit longer .....

BDG19, if you can give up the nav it seems that the dvds are about half the cost without the nav.

What would be a good flip out dvd no nav? I like pioneer but if anybody has some part numbers that would help.

By the way if you want bigger (its hard to actually get big bass in these trucks) bass, the 2 12s I have with my Jl 500 absolutely blows away the mtx or old probox with 2 10s. I drops pretty low for a truck box but is till pretty tight and about as punchy as 2 12s can be. My subs rms at 600 but the owner of probox told me when I bought mine that they were about to release a 1200 watt version, and in my experience should pic up about 3 db but he never said exactly.

Hey WAP, thanks for the advice, Half the reason why I want to up grade to a Nav unit because to be honest, I am really horrible with directions and watching signs!! I plan on purchasing a Travel trailer and want to do a little traveling, and would like to have the Nav help to get around.

Also, Ive been looking into one of those Ebay single sub boxes that go into the well. I dont want or need Window rattleing bass, just something that will give a nice punch that sounds better than stock. I dont want the double, because than I would lose all my storage under the seat. I had a single 10" box in my GMC, and it was great, and especially sounded good when I watched a movie in the truck, Darn system sounded better than my home DVD system!!

I've put a new system in every vehicle I've owned. I use Crutchfield. They include everything you would need. That usually includes the install kit (for the smaller radio to slide into) oem connectors so you don't have to splice the factory wires. And more importantly the special radio antenna adapter from the factory to the new stereo. You could probably save a few bucks elsewhere, But once you start adding the extras you are in the ball park.
