96 12V Dodge Power seats slow or not working
The seats in the 96 12Valve we picked up are power.. but aren't worth anything if they don't move SOME of the time.
Here's the problem:
My GF is short.. I am tall (6'5)..
She gets pretty emotional when I drive the truck, then don't move the seat back forward when I'm done driving it..
Then when she gets in she'll try to the power seat but it won't move back forward. (makes it hard to reach the pedals)
Usually after awhile it WILL move, but its like flipping a coin.
What do we need to replace?
Thanks in advance.

Unless you go to a junkyard there are no parts to replace, the entire power seat bottom is sold as one piece.
I would try cleaning the motors, switches, connectors and rails with electronic cleaner first.

With low voltage DC circuts , when there is some working of a device [ lites not as brite , motors , slow ] more often than not its a bad ground , if it does not work at all , then bad power supply , then bad device , in that order .
Do resistance test on the circuts .
With motors and the need to go in 2 directions the switch revers's the polarity , so what once was the ground is now the + .

My story. Wife is 5'3, I'm 6'. Seat goes back and forth a lot. Till reciently anyway.
It started not wanting to go back and forth in a dependable fashion. On inspection, (after removing 4 bolts that hold the seat to the seat frame and removing the seat only) one motor in the front of the seat base powers a worm gear assembly on each side of the base. The worm gears must turn on both sides for the seat to move smoothly.
Well one side of mine did not turn and the seat would kinda crab sideways for a bit, bind up and sometimes creep forward (back). The slide assembly that houses the worm gear seems to be pressed, crimped together and does not lend itself to disassembly for repair.
My guess is a nylon gear is the culprit and from reading about others having no luck finding a replacement gear, I bolted things back together. Got the seat in a in-between position for the both of us and unplugged the power.
Hope yours works out better.
Good luck, RJR

My seat in my 1996 dodge went out as well, and sure enough it was the warm gear (plastic of course). I went to buy a replacement but they wanted to sell the whole thing for like 700 bucks. I said ooooohhh noooo. I made a worm gear for it out of brass. I have a couple left over if your interested.
