I just bought me an 82 k5 blazer for practically nothing and I've got a donor truck at home. Its a 95 2500 2wd. The truck itself isn't much more than scrap but the cummins is good, and I can rebuild the 47Re and also use the Dana 80 rear axle in the back then use a dana 60 up front. Anybody have any suggestions? How hard is this swap? I've seen it done and it looks like itll turn out to be a bad little toy once I pull it off. I'm completely rebuilding the cummins and the tranny. What tcase would yall use for this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thats what I was thinking and I think the blazer already has that in it

FWIW, if it's a 3/4 ton automatic then you've got a Dana 70 out back.

Ok I didn't know which one it was, but I knew it was one or the other, I just hadn't actually looked. Yall think that would be a good rear axle or do you think a 14 bolt would be better?

I can't comment on a 14 bolt as I know nothing about them, but I do know that the Dana 70 is a beast! It's not quite a Dana 80, but I don't know anybody who needs anything bigger than a 70.
If people don't break the 70 with our heavy trucks hauling heavy loads, then I don't see anyone breaking one in a K5 Blazer.

Do they have any lockers out for them. I just said 14 bolt cause I know them. They're one of the most well known, stout axles in the offroad world right along with the dana 60. But I don't see how it could be any stronger than the dana 70. My only concern is if I can find lockers and parts for it just because I don't know whats available for it

The D70HD and the Corp14boltFF are virtually identical. in size and strength.

Hey mequade why dont we just lincoln lock it?
Let me think out loud:
The tranny is 47rh. We can hunt around and find a getrag (whats in my dodge) or an nv4500 to put in it, rebuild the 47, or get an adaptor and build the chevy auto to work. There wont be too many miles put on the k5anyways right? I think a mild rebuild on the 47 would be best for offroading, with just a little tweaking to the p-pump. either that, or Ill throw some money towards it and stick the 95 motor in my truck and we can use my ve motor in the blazer.
Sounds like you got a few decisions to make. What tranny is in the k5? Also it should have a np208 unless it has been changed. The 14 bolt from a 3/4 ton will bolt right in, and if you find one from a military truck it will have 4.56 gears and locked. Also is it a 82 or a 85 k5? Which motor is currently in it? If it's a gasser will you be able to register it?

Its an 82. Registration is easy here. My dodge was originally registered and still is as a gas engine and it is factory diesel. This blazer I believe was originally diesel then converted to gas. Its got a 350 now.

Ya what your thinkin sounds like itll work, cept the 95 is goin in my K5:cool:. But well just have to do some playin with it and see what we can come up with to work right and not cost too much money. I think for what I want it for, just rebuilding the 47 would be best, cause we could rebuild it for the price of buying a different tranny. The blazer is only gonna see offroad anyway so it doesn't have to be perfect. If something breaks, or doesn't work, then I'm not out of a ride, and we'll fix it when we fix it

Its an 82 sorry. When I made the post I thought it was an 85 cause thats what my friend that I got it from told me, then I got it and realized it was an 82. But ya it does have an np208, which I'll probably have to replace with a 205. And thats why I was thinkin 14 bolt cause it will bolt right up. I"m not sure if the tranny is a 700 or a th350, havn't looked yet. Its got a 350 motor in it, and ya I could register it, but I'm not gonna mess with it. All its gonna see is a trailer and the trail

May want to consider heavier springs, since the 5.9L weighs about 1200 lbs, quite a bit more than your gas 350. Good luck with your project...

Just curious....have you considered a 4BT? You could have good power and fuel economy to boot.
If you could find an old beater 3/4 or 1T single wheel chevy, you could get springs and everything with the axles. If you could find one in a pasture it might be easier that swaping dodge parts. Unless you have a TH400 you dont want to try it with a 6B....it will lunch it in short order. I sold a D70 and TH475 for $450 a few months ago....would have worked well for you :).

Ya, but the reason I wanna use a 12v is cause I've already got it and its free. Plus I might get crazy and decide I want big power and just go crazy with this engine. You shulda saved those parts for me, at least the tranny. I've got two d70s, but just gotta figure out my tranny/tcase setup

You may want to consider a manual tranny cause if you do go crazy on the power, you could have more in a auto tranny build than the whole rest of the project.

Ya thats my dilema. Do I wanna just mildly rebuild the auto I already have now, and see how long it lasts since itll take me awhile to go crazy on the engine anyway, or just go ahead and start out with the manual from the beginning.

For offroad youre not gonna get that crazy. 300hp will be more than plenty for any trail.

Especially any trail in Texas![laugh]
I am originally from Beeville Tx, also have brothers living in Austin, Spring, Katy and my folks have a cattle ranch in San Saba, so I know[laugh]

Ya I know I know, but what if I decide to go crazy then wanna pull the motor and put it in something else, like I dono a certain 91 dodge a friend of mine has? haha, just kiddin. I think the auto will be plenty tho, unless I just come across a 5 speed for cheaper than I can rebuild the auto.

Anybody know who makes an adapter to run a 2wd 47rh with an np205?
