53 Block????

Could someone fill me in on this Inferior 53 block I have ran across on a couple of posts. What years were these out there? What is inferior about them? How can you tell if you have one?

Thanks

The Later 98-2001 24v ctd were the only ones that may have the 53 block. If you do a search on it you will find alot of good info. The 53 block was cast with thiner cylinder walls and they tend to crack, but many people who have the 53 block have modified their motors and have had no trouble.

Here is everything you need to know about this subject. Although there are thousands of them runnin around without a problem, we seem to only hear of the bad ones.

Thanks for the quick response with the links guys. I was unable to find anything when I did the search prior to posting this thread. I guess from the info you provided I don't need to worry about it then since mine is a 93 model. Are there any problems that are specific to the 93 model engines that I should worry about other than the KDP that I have already taken care of?

Mind you 53 blocks were also on the 98 12V not just the 24V.
