34.1 gal?

I know the last thing you want to do is run it out of fuel but I was in a pinch.I have had the low fuel light come on and usually just get fuel but I was towing and my light had come on and the over head said 38 miles left but then the over head started flashing LOW FUEL LOW FUEL and I finally got to the station it took 34.1 gal with a short bed 34 gal tank.So was I done ?
Whats the most fuel (with no mods) has anyone put in their tank?
Thanks
Phil

I think I've put up to 33 gallons after the light came on. Funny how we can be so reliant on a light that should never come on in the first place.

I've put 38 gallons in my 34 gallon tank, no mods. I went about 25 miles after the DTE said "low fuel."

Come on BroncoHound, you expect us to believe that. That pump ripped you off if it said you pumped 38 gal into a 34 gal tank.

I've put in just over 39. I'm sure it would not have gone much farther!

Several others have also reported 39 gallons.

I too have put in 38 gallons fuel, no mods. Takes some time though, almost five minutes or so to fill it right up.

The "34 gallon" short bed fuel tank actually can hold 40 Gallons when filled to the top of the filler tube and with the vent modification. The vent modification relocates the vent hose to the top of the expansion hump on the tank. When I did the vent mod, I put in five gallons from a fuel canister, then drove about two blocks and put in an additional 35 gallons. With the vent mod you can fill to the brim from near empty in five minutes or less. The mod also doesn't give the wife time to buy useless trinkets when we are traveling...

See posts below yours.

In all honesty, it wasn't easy since I don't have the tank vent mod. I would fill slowly to the top, after all the bubbling died down, then shake the truck by grabbing the bed rail and rocking back and forth (side to side). It allowed the bubbles in the "hump" on the fuel tank to expel and be replaced with fuel. Then i would add another half a gallon or so, shake, repeat. After the 5th or 6th time doing this shaking the truck wouldn't make any bubbles expel so I don't think I could have gotten much more in there.

I've put 35+ in my rig three times of the 5-6 times I've filled it since I got it a couple of months ago. I wonder if I got one of those 36 gallon tanks or if some service stations are shorting us a little. One of those times my fuel light had just come on too...

I bet the pumps arent as accurate as we think - especially as many of gallons as we throw in these trucks.
My buddies dually took 39 gallons on a long trip once

The most I've put in is about 25 gallons, and I've never seen the low fuel light come on.
