$200 labor to fix KDP?
Just read an artical in Diesel Power and thats what they said. I would expect to pay extra for parts. Is this what I should expect to pay to have the KDP fixed? Looks like it would take all day for a pro to do it, but I'm no pro. Would a Dodge or Cummins dealer do this work? Thank You.

It took me 6 hours and $48, but i went really slow and it was my first time. Most guys here say they do it in 2 hours. 200 in labor isn't bad if ur paying a shop to do it because thats alittle over 2 hours in labor for what most places charge.

Its really not that hard or time consuming, just takes pretty basic tools. and a little reading of directions for the first time. I went with the kit from tst. Just lay down the beer for a minute and do it, lol Just my 2 cents.

You don't have to be a pro to do the work, it is basic wrenching and the TST instructions will take you through it well. You will probably spend more time cleaning the parts for installation vs wrenching. It took me a nice sunny morning to do the work. Also a good introduction to start to learn about the engine.
Maybe a dumb question here, but does a 2005 have a KDP problem? I always thought it was a 2ed gen hassle.

I believe they got it solved in 98???????? I will tell you this, Fix it before it gets you! I went to college for diesel technology so I'm fairly handy with this engine and it took me about 12 to 16 hours to fix after it ripped a 3 inch chunk out of my timing housing. Might have been a few less hrs. but lots of wiskey and a mis-aligned timing pin on the new housing caused me to time it off the fly wheel.

Pre 99s are the ones with a kdp problem. All 97 and before models had the problem. Some 98s had them but the bad timing case was being fazed out and by 99 it was not a problem anymore.
