VE Pump Diesel Fountain
#17
Turns out I have a full oring kit, I found the exact one I needed. Installed it, and used blue loctite to keep those bolts tight. I decided for now to just throw the pump back on.
The only concern I had putting it back together was how easily the pump slid back into position. I did lock the pump to TDC, but I didnt fight at all to get the key to slide together, which makes me nervous that the key dropped out. I tried to look in through the front, but I can't see past the gear to confirm it is engaged. I think it went together correctly, but not sure how to confirm. Just for piece of mind is all.

Hey'all,
So I finished getting everything back together yesterday. I am pretty sure I could see the key installed using a mirror and flashlight.
After bleeding out the system, everything is back up and running smooth with no leaks. I appreciate everyone's help.
Thanks.

I might refrain from doing this as doing so just a bit too much could interfere with the tapered fitment of the gear on the pump shaft. It's been suggested to me to dimple the key on both sides with a center punch to help keep it in the keyway. I've also used a dab of grease in the keyway as an aid.

Hey'all, reviving my own thread here...
I got my VE Pump installed again a couple of week's back, got it running again, but unfortunately broke the throttle linkage. Stores just opened up here on Friday, so I got in this weekend and picked up some parts to make a new linkage.
After getting the link installed, I fired up the truck. It idles well, but as soon as I try and rev it up, the engine seems to have no power, bucks a bit, and smokes like hell. Just wondering if there is something I may have overlooked, or if I possibly managed to mess up my timing. I was a bit concerned with lining up the injector pump key. I thought I could see it with a mirror. I'm not sure if it is possible for the engine to run with the key missing or not.
Failing that, I dont think I really changed anything. I will double check my ignition sequence/firing order, but I believe it to be correct. Other than the oring on the back side of the VE pump, I didnt take anything apart.
Appreciate some thoughts before I continue my trouble shooting.
Thanks.

before doing that I would get a bore scope that plugs into your smart phone. Google it there is one on fleabay for like 12.99 they are really handy, much better than a mirror and flashlight

Mine did the same thing it was right over on the back side across from the lab valve I think it’s 2 bolts and there’s an o ring that goes out and it’s insane how much fuel will spray out of that thing lol
