^Really it depends what color he choses to use, I've seen variations of reds/yellows/blues/metallics go for upwards of $400+ plus a quart so again it could be possible plus you factor in if it needs repair work too. Primer/bondo/sandpaper/tape/paper add up quick believe me I know I use to do it for a living.

Yep, we painted a porsche once it was a silver metallic cost $625 for a quart thank god it only needed 2 bumpercovers and sideskirts done.
Also people need to keep in mind that you rarely need more than 3qts to paint a vehicle including a truck as it can be reduce with paint thinner or reducer leaving you alot of extra paint.

This guy put on over 80 miles in his joy ride and when I found it in the shop the engine was leaking oil, which it never did before.

In 1969 I was standing outside at 10:00 A.M. break and I heard a scream coming up the street, my 1965 Mustang had a unique sound with over 500 horsepower from a 289 HiPo motor, 320-degrees duration Isky Roller Cam, timing gears, Hooker Headers, Paxton Supercharger with 4.10 gears it really made some noise.

When I saw it I called my mom and she picked me up at lunch and we went to the paint shop and they would not let us into the shop they said because of insurance regulations so we called the police and they met us there then the story changed to Oh he had to go and pick up some supplies, we waited across the street from the shop until the car got back around 4:30 P.M. and we called the police back and they met us to check the car when we did the carpet was full of beach sand and long red hair from his girlfriend, the engine was leaking oil on the ground and it smelled hot.

I took some court time but I got the manager got fired, and every person working in the shop got fired, I got a free Deluxe paint job, extended warranty and $800.00 to repair my oil leak.

Good thing they didn't have cell phones back then so he couldn't tip him off that I was waiting for him.

He picked the wrong day to go to the beach.

^those stories bring back some memories of a few shops I worked at. We (I was involved aint gona lie but I was young) use to do burnouts/donuts in the back parking lot whenever the boss was gone, I got to take cars out for test drives after doing alignments but honestly never beat on them while doing that but man our back parking lot was nothing but blackmarks.

No offense taken. If you can't find paint for more than $100/gallon you're not looking to hard. It's very easy to get over $100. My paint does have a tone of matallic which raises the price even more. I'm not saying you cant paint your pickup for $500. Just dont expect great or a long lasting results.

There your wrong, I have seen more high end quality stuff for example Dupont paint fade quicker than Omni which is considered cheap paint. From my experience with different brands of paint quality seems almost the same across the spectrum it's more like your paying for the name is all. I have had alot of luck with buying an average base paint and using a better clear like duponts clear line is awesome but at $300 a gallon for the clear alone and $71for the hardener make so it pricey but has worked well for me in the past.

John deere makes a great primer that is only like $10 to $12 per quart. Their paint is also cheap. If paint is so expensive my truck might just get painted JD green. lol

wow what a good day for me to stumble on this thread!.....i just bought all the painting supplies for my truck today.....let me tell you this....i'd gladly pay somebody 2 grand to do i paint job on my truck if they were buying the supplies.....1 gal. of high build primer + hardner, 1gal. of white sealer + hardner and reducer, 1-1/2 gal of color, 1 gal of clear......plus all the other crap i needed.....PPG paint......way over a grand!

it seems most of painting is in the prep. work anyways.

I don't see much point in spending a ton of cash on the paint. Just buy something that you know isn't horrible. Prep it right and it should be good to go for a long time.

How can you say I'm wrong when going by your own figures you're already at $371.00. That leaves you with $129.00 for paint, primer, and the other odds and ends materials.

With painting my pickup it was stripped to bare metal everywhere except for places that will never be seen.
