winch question

I am looking for an inexpensive winch to put on my 25ft GN. It won't be used very often, just to ocasionally pull cars and truck on the trailer. I have looked at Milemarkers. My question is how big of one do i need and where is the best place to get it? Thanks, Ross

Might look into that winch that they have at cosco,if they have one near you,its a cheap one,but just to pull cars/trucks up on the gn you should be good to go.

I have a 12,000 Warn. I mounted it to fit any 2" receiver(sometimes you want to go where you came from). I also mounted a 2" receiver to my utility trailer and I use it there. It does triple duity.

12,000 is great but way overkill for only pulling a car onto a trailer. Unless your dragging wreaks without wheels or pulling farm tractors from the mud anything more than 6000-8000 is not neccesary. Even 5000 will pull a large vehicle. Rolling resistance is not that great. If you need more power you can always use a ****** block.

You can also use a pully, double back, and double your pulling capacity. I'll say 12,000lbs maybe overkill, but there are times I'm glad I had it.

This is the one I put on my GN. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=40764

Works good for pulling junk vehicles on. I don't use it all the time so I didn't need a good name brand winch.

2500lbs should be fine for a rolling load. I have a milemarker on the front of my yamaha kodiak atv. tuff little winch. spend the extra 50 dollars or so and get some synthetic winch line. alot better than wire cable! on the other hand I also have a 3500lb warn on my car hauler, works fine!

Get the biggest winch you can afford!!! A little winch under 6000lb. will struggle with a big load!

The 12K# Mile Marker hydro-winch on my GN is set up for 2" receiver... probably overkill for your needs, but I can't recommend hydro-winches enough!

100% duty cycle - if the 9K# Mile Marker is good enough for the HumVees, the big version is just right for me...
