Will This Work...

I'm looking for input on the following configuration to see if will work or not:

2004 3500 Ram 5.9 HO CTD DRW LB
Towing
48'-50' Race Trailer (5er of course)

I'm relativly new to trailering and I seem to get conflicting info from poeple that don't do this for a living/hobby.

Keep in mind, I will be following suggested weights closely.

Any help would be really appreciated.

First of all....WELCOME!!!! You'll find lots of good info and good folks here. Stick around and enjoy yourself. ;D

I can't say for sure, but if you're within the weight limits for the truck and trailer I don't see why not. You might check your state laws for trailer length, but outside of that I don't see a problem. Others here know more about this than me though....and they'll probably be along shortly.

If I recall, Bill (Haulinindixie) pulls a 50 ft car trailer. PM him and see what he says.

Yeah, here in Arizona there aren't very many rules governing this type of setup...hence the reason why I can't find to much info.

Re:Will This Work...

I pull a 44ft enclosed Pace this length is about right for pulling just about every place including thru cities....I had a 53ft enclosed with 4 axels but this was not a good length for cities so I sold it

You said a 5er....go with a gooseneck rather then a 5er hitch....most gooseneck hitches are rated for 30000 lbs plus it allows more sideways movement then a 5er hitch

Re:Will This Work...

The gooseneck hitch and trailer is the only way to pull that much weight. Most goosenecks are in the 25 to 30k lb weight rating and 5ers in the 15 to 18k lbs.

Thanks for the response. I never gave the gooseneck a good look.

Re:Will This Work...

I admit I am new to the "small" world of trailering, but I am very accoustomed to handling big rigs.

Don't take it the wrong way, in no way do I mean that the world of trailering is small in a bad way. All I mean is that when it comes to trucks, I know the big boys, now that I want to start my own company using smaller trucks I'm looking for any potential pitfalls that may come.

Eveyone to this point has provided me with valuable info into making some key decisions and I thank you all, even that last post.
