Toyota SR5 towing a single axle two horse trailer passed the same truck the other day with a flat bed bumper pull trailer with a cadge made from looked like tomato cages with it stuffed full of goats.

Is it just me or do the goats seem to get the blunt end of the stick when being transported LOL

I've spent a few weeks in Waco recently for work, and it seems like every other vehicle on 35 is a pickup trying to do the work of a class-8 truck!

Saw more diesel Dodges there in 1 week than in a year around here...

Coolest thing I've seen going down the road was a few years ago when the state was rebuilding bridges on I-65 in NW Indiana. Saw some sections of beams used for the bridges being hauled down the highway. Each one must have been about 75 ft in length and had 4 or 5 DOT and State cops for escort. They moved nonstop till they got to the jobsites. They ran 3 trucks together for about 5 loads each, that i was able to count. They probably ran more at night or when I wasn't home. The trucks were all older western stars that sounded like they had big Cummins engines in them.

the other day I saw a mid 70s Chevy 1/2 ton with 22" or bigger wheels towing a Camry on a utility trailer. No straps or anything....just wheel chocks at the rear tires of the Camry.

I saw an old Mercury Grand Maquis towing a cabin cruiser boat (~25' long). The rear end was sagging a ton.

...just plain dumb!

This isn't towing, but last week I saw a mini-van going down a dirt road in a off-road area with a boy and a girl (10-14yrs.)both standing on the rear bumper holding on to the roof rack. They were doing about 20mph. They were just having a good old time...what in the world was mom and dad thinking??

When I worked as a self-employed mason before I got a flat-bed truck, I did the same thing. If I only need to carry a couple lengths of 20' rebar (1/2") I would drive over it and tie it up to the bottom of the truck with doubled-up tie-wire. That was only for a short distance and I felt it was safe. I'd seen other people do the same. I guess I could have potentially speared someones tires.

I was on the way back from Lake Charles, La. last week and saw a early 80's chevy regular cab dually towing a single wide mobil home on the feeder road. I had to rub my eyes to make sure I wasn't dreaming! You want to talk about a serious case of OVERLOAD!!!!

When i was 19 i pulled a 873 bobcat behind my 4cyl 4x4 toyota tacoma (which i still have and runs like new) only for about 20 miles each way. I would not have done it but i had taken off work and was supposed to have it delivered to our new house which we had just bought after being married 2 weeks and the rental place told me told me their truck broke down. I had a 1500 chevrolet with a trans mission that had already gone out so i took ol'trusty up there and had to put it in 4x4 lo to get started then grind out of it to 1st on the high side. Believe it or not she pulled pretty good (50 was all i would run and stayed in fourth) but if it wernt for elec. brakes i would never have stopped. On flat ground she would start out fine in 1st but on any gravel or hill starting had to be done in low.

My own stupid human tricks

I have to admit. I've done my fair share of hazardous haulin duty.
My first truck was..don't laugh, a Subaru Brat!.
It had a bed, so that counts, right. I think it was rated at 400 lbs, but I didn't know that. It only cost me $400 in '87 when it was 5 years old.
Had to haul landscape rock about 2 miles and 1/2 ton didn't look like much in the front end loader's scoop ..well by the time I got home the tail pipe was ground off nice and flat.

The second time I got conned (cause I had the big block GMC) into pulling a Ford farm tractor back from Louisville KY to St Louis, with my inlaws equipment, When I find the pics, I'll post em here, needless to say, a 5 hour trip took 10 hours with numerous trailer spare tires used up!

I can't think of anything quite as ridiculous as some of what you guys have seen, but up in this part of the world some of the larger-than-life loads they bring up the 2 lane highway are something else.

"The two oversized loads are each more than 10 metres (33 feet) wide, 89 metres (295 feet) long and 11 metres (37 feet) high. They each weigh 812 metric tonnes and will occupy two lanes of traffic."

That green rock truck posted earlier? They bring those up all the time.

Also huge pre-fabbed pipe structures on gigantic steel I-beam racks.

One of these days I'll have my camera and take some pics.

Most recently a ford 350 box van with a car hanging out of the van, flat towing a mitsu cab over box van with another car hanging out the back.

About two months ago, a nice new bus style motor home flat towing a navigator with a cigarette style boat hooked to the navigator on 78 in PA. Total length had to be over 100ft

Few years ago while working at a building supply company had a guy come in and pick up a 37 foot gutter with a late 80's lincoln town car. I ask him where he wanted me to put it and he just asked for two peices of rope. He tied it to the passanger mirror and the antenna and drove off
