wheel base & 30 foot airstream
hello,
i am thinking for my next truck i might go with the short bed and am wondering if anyone pulls a 28 or 30 foot trailer with a short bed? if so, how does it handle, any problems, any recommendations using the shorter wheel base? my current dodge is an HO long bed with the quad cab.
thanks,
david in socal

Did this just a few weeks ago before I purchased the dodge. I needed to move my trailer that had been pulling with my old Ford dually that was dead, so I asked my buddy with a short wheel base Chevy to move her. So he came over and hitched up and said "You drive, I'm not going to be responsible for your trailer". I was quite surprised at the amount of sway she had - was not bad but seemed to push the rear end around a bit more. We did eye ball the hitch set up so I doubt it was set up incorrectly.
Then fast forward a couple of weeks ago we pulled the trailer about 300 miles total with the truck in my sig. Did fine but did get a little bit of push - not as much as my buddies short bed. So yes you get more but it's really not that much of an issue if you ask me. This was all done with a 31ft TT that tips the scales at 9200-9500lbs depending on how much junk wife packs.

The longer the TV wheelbase the better a tag along will handle. However since you are on a diesel site I presume that the truck will be a quad cab. The wheel base for the SB quad cab is the same as a regular cab long box. I don't see any problems with the setup provided the tongue weight is within the 10% to 15% guidelines. My brother in law pulls a 28 footer that comes in just over 8,000 without any problems.
