Under The Dash Brake Controller Hook Up
 

I am very much a novice, however, I would like to hook up an rv brake controller under the dash of my 2005 Ram 2500 HD. I have the pig tail, from the dealership, what do I look for under the dash to hook the pig tail up to? I should be able to follow the directions on the brake controller to hook the controller up to the pig tail. Will I need to run a line to my battery and if so, what do you suggest?

You are looking for a light blue connector. It's under your dash somewhere on the left side. You may have to look pretty hard mine was kinda on top and towards the outside of a big cluster of wiring. Grab a flashlight and maybe a mirror and start looking. It's probably taped up there also.

Should be just above the emergency brake release. 4 prongs on 1 row.

You don't need to run a wire to the battery. The +12v power is supplied through 1 of the 4 wires in that light blue connector.

Look at the first pic in my gallery. Just to the left of that bundle of wires, you can just see the blue connector. That single red wire you see plugs into it and used to run my cb, it has since been removed.

Thank you all for your assistance. I found the plug this morning. Now all I have to do is figure out what type of brake controller to purchase and "get er done". I think I will use the velcroe idea as well to avoid putting holes in the plate.:)

Buy a Prodigy and get the wiring harness with it. It's only about $15 and in make the unit plug and play. No wires to splice. It has a plug on both sides.

Agreed. I installed a Prodigy in my '05 2500 today that was on my old truck. The Prodigy is very easy to install, setup, and use. It is also a fantastic controller, IMHO. They also supply very good instructions with it that make the whole experience fairly painless.

I also use it. I have had others on furds And one other name brands on my last Dodge and I will never go backwards Prodigy all the Way. On-most brake controllers you got to keep adjusting it Once I adjusted Prodigy it stade there and has bin left alone for months on end and still Not one problem in two years. Love it.:D
