Tried to drive the speed limit, and fried my 12v
Do you have a lot of blow by coming from the breath tube ? I see a lot of 12v with bad dipsticks leaking some blow by check the breather tube if you have a stream of gas pushing out fast you have ring issues most have some blow by my 90 I can hold my hand 8" away and barley feel any and thats with 800,000 + miles that smoke could well be a bad injector .
Engines out and at the shop.
My Machinist mentioned the cylinders didn't look so bad, but still no word yet.
I spoke with Zach Hamilton about his 178-208 cam. But after I explained what I wanted from my tow vehicle he said..
""If it were mine, I would get a htbg 57mm s-300 with a 14cm housing and pair it up with a 188-208 cam. That will be enough air to cool your egts quite a bit. On injectors, there are a few options available. You should verify with the choice with an injector company, but I would run a 5x.012" which is a 5 hole nozzle with a .012" orifice , if you want to lean towards economy or 5x.014" if you want to lean towards performance. Also, I would go vco not sac style.""
Think his suggestion is a good plan?
I'm also giving up on Jeff at Mumau Diesel.. I talked to him and it seemed he wanted to help me out. But I then sent a more detailed email which was never answered. Even after I called back and asked a employee to remind him to answer.. Nothing.
So I'm tempted to order my rebuild kit from http://www.cumminsperformanceparts.com since Zach linked to it for whatever reason. Decent vendor?

The core bodies were pitted, and 2 of them leaked soon after install. I sent them back and they put the tips on some of the cores I had returned.
They always returned phone calls, and they honored their warranty, but I don't think I'll be going back.
I bought a set of 7x10 sac injectors from them on June 21, 2012. Paid $400 + $150 core charge. They didn't come very soon. There were many phone calls with the response from Jamie, "I'm having trouble finding cores." I finally got a set of injectors 2 1/2 months later. (Sept 10, I think)

Zach Hamilton mentioned..
"Injectors and turbo are something I never sell as sometimes there are supply issues."
I didn't realize 12v injectors were hard to find. Doesn't Bosch still make new ones? I better take a closer look at mine.
Any suggestions how to figure out which injectors I have?

I can buy new stock or sac injectors for 3-400 a set. I have a set of +40 I'm going to try. If they haze like these things do, I'm going back to stock.
I've learned a lot. One thing I've learned is that they run cleaner with smaller injectors and turning up the pump. If you add fuel by bigger injectors, they'll likely run dirty.

I ordered a set of new bosch injectors from us diesel about 4 months ago. I got them the same week they were ordered.
I had a set of those in my truck and they ran hot and dirty towing. I ended up going back to stock and was able to pull my trailer faster and not have to worry about smoke and egt's. I miss the little bump in power they gave but that's it. Mine were 4 hole BTW.

Mine are 432 131 837. What were yours?
I just got a call from my machinist..
He said #1 cylinder had been re sleeved.
A hone job was all that was needed to get the bores in good shape.
Pistons are stock and in reusable condition!
Head needed decked and now only needs valve stem seals to be ready.
Last three crank main bearing surfaces need turned, and he was surprised the bearings didn't spin.
So its good news, but leaves me wondering where all the blow-by came from if the rings didn't fail.
And what took out the last three crank main bearing surfaces? Anyone?
Did this cause the blow by?

Could this crack in my vacuum pump housing cause some of the blow-by? And what should I do about this? Replace the entire vacuum pump?

This has me concerned because if the repair doesn't work, or finding the part, the engine might have to come back out to address again. And the PS pump almost touch's the motor mount and I'm guessing that's how the vac pump housing got damaged.

Eh, you could have that one welded. Mine was blown apart chunks missing, had to get a rebuilt unit fro Gould and pay the core charge..... Still wasn't bad. They might be able to sell you the back part as well......

its kaput. I cracked the injector lines and got a lower rougher idle each cylinder. Not allot of white smoke but a steady trail that does smell sweet.
