Old Horse Trailer

Well it looks like I will be getting/inheriting an old 6 horse solid steel trailer. I have hauled this trailer many times with an old chevy dually but I am interested in learning more as I will be hooking my CTD up to more and more. I was curious to see if anyone has experience with a trailer similar to it. It is an old GN (1970’s??, maybe even early 80’s), solid steel sides with about 1 foot window along the top of the sides, 6-horse (2-2-2), dual rear doors, side door, tandem axle, very heavy and STOUT trailer. It may even be homemade. Any ideas on probable weights? It will definitely be a fixer-up-er. Thanks, matt

Re:Old Horse Trailer

Instead of guessing at the weight why don't you hook it up and weigh it??

Because it is in OK and i am in TX. I plan on doing that eventually, once it is made a little more usable.

Re:Old Horse Trailer

A bit more info would help...length & width? But, let's just assume it has twin 7000# axles. So it could weigh anywhere from 11000# on up, seeing that it's steel. Easier to have someone in OK drag it down to the feed store and weigh it for you. http://www.trailswesttrailers.com/trailer_baron.htm

Re:Old Horse Trailer

Dated a barrel racer a long time ago that had an old 4 horse with living quarters made by McQuerry. Sounds like the same style of trailer i believe it weighed between 10k and 12k all i know is that it was one heavy trailer.
