Towing my Arctic Fox 5th wheel

OK so here is my question. As per my sig I have a 06 2500 5.9L Auto SLT Quad Cab 4X4 with a 3.73 axle ratio and a Arctic Fox 27-5L Gross Dry Weight of 8560 and Pin weight of 1500lbs. I weighed my truck & trailer while on a trip last year and the scale indicated 10,357 combined. Do you think I'm OK weight wise? I believe I am, however reading the many forums I'm confused about GVWR, GCWR and all the other weight specs variations. All I want is a uncomplicated yes or no. The sales brochure says 12,950 GCWR for my truck.

Thanks

You might want to check it again. My truck empty weighs 7600#. With my camper on it, I'm @ 12K#. Your GCVW must be more than that.

sounds like we have all most the same truck. mine is 7,050 something is not right with your weight. I think the gcwr is 20,000 and the gvwr on mine is 9000. so if you do have 1500 pounds of pin weight you are still ok. but with out knowing what your truck really weights it's hard to say.

Your truck will pull that easily. Full stop. However depending where you are pulling it matters, It seems almost everywhere so long as you don't exceed your tire rating or your GAWR (gross axle weight) you are good to go if it's an RV.
In Canada, British Columbia they have been pulling guys for GVWR, that's where it gets sticky. The 2500 GVRW is 8800lbs and the truck weighs around 7100-7500lbsdepending what you've got installed, that only leaves 1300-1700lbs for pin weight, and anything else you put in the back of the truck, So tread lightly in BC
I agree your numbers are off.

Like the others say above, your numbers are off (my truck is 7750 with me and half tank of fuel in it). I have the bumper pull version of your trailer. You are well within your specs. No worries.

When I had my 2500 it weighed 7700 lbs & I pulled my 12,000 lb 5vr & was right at my GVWR for that truck.

Weighed my truck this morning

So according to the scales at the dump/reycle facility my truck weigh is 7840This includes my full aux. tank. With a pin weight of 1500# and my GVWR at 9000# looks like I may be over by 340#. Are my caculations correct? Truck doesnt bottom out on the springs and rides OK, so while I may be over GVWR by 300+ lbs. I'm under the Gross Combined weight by over 2K should I be concerened?
Thanks for your replys

Kevin,
Looked at the website you referenced and the specs on it for my truck are Tow - 13,000#
Gross Combined weight 20,000#
GVWR 8510

However the GVWR on the sticker on the door of my truck is 9000#. Brochure for my 06 truck states GCWR 20,000#, and Max towing capacity 12,950#. Now you may see why I'm somewhat confused.

Don't forget you are using the empty pin weight, that changes with the trailer loaded, you could load more in the back or if your potable water tank is in the back you could carry more water. Should you be concerned? I have never been stopped but my truck with fiver has always been OVER my GVWR but way under my GAWR and my tire limits. Like I said before it seems it's only BC that's on the witch hunt. Am I concerned? Somewhat, not because of the fine but they would make you leave the trailer and you would have to get something else to tow it with.

I looked at a new 2009 the other day and the GVWR was 8800lbs, the same as my 2001. They must have upped it to 9000lb around your year then took it back down again??

I had to drop a trailer in BC at Sparwood because I was over by 1700KG !!!
I got away with one fine. We learned that the trailer I was hauling was labeled incorrectly but I still exceeded the limits for my Mega cab dually 4x4 which for some reason is only 10,500 compared to a quad cab dually 4x4 which is 12,200. My truck only weighs 400 pounds more then a quad cab. ???
I was hauling commercial at the time...if the trailer had had 3 axles as was stated on the title and the sticker...and i knew it did not have three axles, the scale officer said I might have been ok or just slightly over the limit as the third axle would have been in front of the two that this trailer had. What a cluster that was.
While I was in the scale I noticed that three private RV'ers rolled over the scales. I asked why they would do this and the officer said they are stopping any suspect loads now and have noticed that many private RV'ers are rolling across the scales. He added that they have shut down lots of private folks as well as commercial for being over the manufacturers limit...not the axle or tire limit. I was still safe on axle and tire limit...I got tagged for the smallest number on the door sticker. Fine was bearable...$103.00.

Scotty,
Do you know what the officer meant by mfg's limit? Is it the trailers GVWR or the trucks GCWR, or some other rating?

the trucks limit...the manufacturers limit on the door sticker, which will be the smallest number compared to the tires and axle weights.
I always get the GVW GCWR GVWR mixed up...I think its the GVWR but could be wrong...at any rate its the smallest.

Thanks, it would be the GVWR of 9000# on my truck. Did you observe how they weighed the RV's. What I mean is did they just weigh the truck attached to the trailer or weigh both?
