The rating you are likely to exceed first with a 2500 and 5th wheel will be the rear axle weight rating, and the pickup's gross vehicle weight rating.

I'd expect maybe 2,200 pounds of hitch weight or so, plus the weight of the hitch, people in the truck, tools and what not...

I've got to watch the GVWR of the truck. Unless I've miss read the spec sheet the truck has a 6,000lb axle rating and a curb weight on the rear is only 2400lb. Depending on the layout one has a hitch weight of 1700 which is within the what I believe will be the GVWR. I need to take my truck to a scale and see what it's curb weight with me and a full tank of fuel actually is. From there I can add the hitch weight, my wife and other stuff.

Does anyone know off hand what a Reese slider hitch weighs? I looked at Reese's site, but couldn't find that information. I'm thinking probably 200lb or so, but could be way off.

Not sure, but that sounds like a good guess.
The new trucks eem to be rated for heavier trailers, not sure why. The 3500's are drfinetly the ticket with heavy trailers. Mine is good for about 14,800, with 4.10 and 6 speed NV5600.
I think there is no issue running up to rated weight. It is worth weighing the rig to really see where you are.
