If it's a bumper pull trailer, you will need a heavier hitch rated for 14K. I think Reese makes a 15K version, I have one on my 02. You will also need a ball and reciever rated for that weight. Be sure and check your tongue weight and make sure your within the weight limits.

I would also make sure and launch it on a dry shallow ramp the first time. A steep slimy ramp could be fun with that much weight .

Don't know your regs up there. Probably available in a search engine.

I don't know what your SRW GVW is for the truck, or what kind of hitch you
have. As a "general" rule-of-thumb, a receiver (IE/bumper) set up will transfer 10% to the truck, a gooseneck or 5th wheel is closer to 25% and more.

You don't advise what brake set up you have on the truck, or what engine and transmission set up. What distances will you be towing ?

I run a DRW (4x4) 3500 Cummins 6spd, with an exhaust brake. I have hauled my 14,000# fire truck on my 6,000# flatbed, grossing at around 30K with no problems, but that is a DRW not a SRW.

If you provide some more information, perhaps we can get a little more information going your way.

hitch is stock , but i think ihave to upgrade that anyways, the truck is basically stock withan auto, was thinking id get an exhaust brake, i think it has 373's as well. i think the furthest id tow it ever would be about 400 miles, and that would only be once a year. i think my main concern, is it being ABLE to tow it, but it sounds like it can do that, ill take my chances with it being "legal" after i get my new hitch and whatever else i am supposed to have.

You also might want to look at a weight distributing / sway bar hitch that works with boat trailers. I think the Equal-I-Zer system works for that situation: http://www.equalizerhitch.com/

And there are a couple of threads regarding installing Class V hitches on these trucks.

Try this one - there's links to other threads within the thread: https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=138986

And here's a thread with some pics of a Class V upgrade: https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/d...d.php?t=100590

are you able to tow it? sure! but 14K on a bumper is ALOT of weight and depending on how the trailer axles are positioned can sag the rear of the truck down pretty good. And yes, you will need a higher rated hitch/receiver. you may want to really look into these sway controlling hitches. Sounds like your boat is pretty big and tall so its gonna want to get loosey goosey on you at highway speeds.

good luck with it man!

Boat trailer tongue weights are usually in the 5-10% range. You should be able to keep all the numbers good and tow just fine. A boat trailer that large will have trailer brakes on one or more axles. I don't know if you have to worry about weight or the width of the trailer where you are though. Your truck should be fine otherwise.

I've pulled a boat that size on more than one occasion. It pulled it just fine. It is a little weird looking back and feeling like your about to be run down by the SS Minnow though .

The truck will be fine. As said earlier, ensure the hitch isn't overloaded. Ever thought about a goose-neck type of trailer for a boat that big? I saw a nice one carrying a 47' Fountain.

Brakes. What kind of brakes does the trailer have? Surges? Surges won't work with equalizer bars. Electrics? Work pretty good until they get soaked a couple of times. Electric over Hydraulic? Good, but pricey - but what the heck, thats gotta be a hefty investment sitting on that boat trailer.

Curious, is this boat launched on a ramp, or lifted off by a hoist? If its a ramp, make sure its at high water (if you live with tidal ranges), otherwise you might not have enough ramp to back it all the way in. I've run into that problem with my 27' Formula a few times launching at low water - I just have to back the trailer tires over the ridge at the bottom of the ramp and push the tires out into the mud.

itll launch off a ramp, but it will only have to a few times a year.
brakes are electric over hydraulic
i wasnt planning on towing this thing enough to warrant spending an arm and a leg on a goose neck, it would be better, but i was gonna lift the truck soon so i dont think it would work so hot.
