I have 2 5th wheels and had to increase the spring height on both so they would set level with 6" of box rail to camper clearance. On both units i found it to be much better to lengthen to spring hangers rather than "flipping the axles " which is the wrong thing to do for several of the above mentioned reasons (axle camber, brake shoe position)

The correct method is to move the axle directly down from the above spring mounting to a below spring mounting and weld a new mounting pad to the top of the axle.
Or do as i have and extend the spring mounts with this method you can do one side at a time and can control exactly how much you lift the camper to get the exact clearance you need. Another advantage is you don't have to jack the entire camper up or touch the axles,u bolts, springs, brakes, ect and if you do it right the camper can be very easy and quickly put back down to stock level again for resale.

Box in the outboard spring hangers on the away from spring side and on the center equalizer mount i put on a cross brace front and rear after you lengthen them. I have a 32 foot jayco with a slide out i have done this way that also needed springs so i replaced them at the same time and it is still working great. I do a lot of off road camping so it has been well tested on both 5th wheels.

You don't really turn the axle over do you? Don't you just move the springs (a spring over) to the top of the axle? That would not be a very smart way to raise your trailer IMHO.

You just "flip" from above to below the springs and add new spring perches. Not the best terminology and it causes confusion. Turning the axle 180* reverses your camber and changes the brake orientation, not good.

Don't flip the axles just do a spring over, axles stay in the same place.

That looks good!

BTW mine is a shortbed too and the sales people are saying a sliding hitch or sidewinder is a necessity. What do you do with your hitch? The campers I am looking at are very similar to yours. Thanks!

I couldn't fork over the dough for an auto slider so I bought a 15K Reese manual slider. Works fine. I can get pretty close to a 90 degree turn with it slid back. If you go that route spend the little extra for the clamp on frame mounts for the bed rails. Drilling the frame is a pain.
