You must be kidding. I posted the FMCSA reg in post 100. How about a reference to 5 axles requiring a CDL. With all the BS that has been posted on this thread it would be nice to learn something if it is true.

Not the point, although your observation is probably correct. Just another piece of mis-information as far as I am concerned. Nothing I have ever heard or read says that 5 axles requires a CDL.

I ran a one ton hot shot rig hauling rv's out of Elkhart Indiana and it didn't matter if it was a 12' single axle pop up, I was for hire so I had to have a cdl.
Log book, dot inspection sticker, safety triangles, fire extinguisher and signs on the truck.....period.
Also depending on the class of hazmat you must have a cdl if carrying ANY amount. I'm not sure if thats the case in this situation though.
I really can't believe this thread is still going....it's dead and stinkin' fellas.

The company you leased to required a CDL, the feds don't unless the GCWR exceeds 26,000. The company I lease to does not require one and I have no intention of getting one. A CDL takes away a few things, driving school to get a dismissal of a ticket being one of them.

The way it was explained to me is if your commercial, and I am. then the gcwr this includes truck, and trailer combined if they are over 10,001 lbs. then a dot number, med card, log book, flares or triangle are required. cdl only if combination of the two is over 26,001 lbs. the officer that told me this said he didn't care if it was a car, van,rv, or motorcycle if the combination of the two was over 10,001,and you are commercial, which in itself is interpeted many ways you better have the above mentioned items. I know in ohio they are putting up signs at the scales stating all commercial vehicles over 10,001 must enter. anything to hinder a guy trying to make an honest living. should have been an investment banker or a dot dude.

True , you can't get a ticket deferred after a conviction but in most cases the ticket can be reduced in a pretrial arrangement to a non-moving violation .
