Info on RECALL for RV owners

I was surfing the RV.Net website and ran across information on a Recall Notice for Samsung Microwave Ovens that were installed in newer RVs. I copied one of the posts seen below and you can read the entire thread HERE.
I think I have one of the mentioned microwaves in our Cougar and need to check when I get home. I know a few of our members have purchased new RVs lately.

I went to the NHTSA site and here is the page to start the search on Equipment NHTSA Search

I continued the search selecting the Samsung Microwave, and randomly selecting a model. This is the result:

Make : SAMSUNG MICROWAVE Model : MR5493G01 Build Dates : MAY 01, 2000 -
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 03E044000 Recall Date : SEP 22, 2003
Component: EQUIPMENT
Potential Number Of Units Affected : 183897
Summary:
SAMSUNG MICROWAVE OVENS INSTALLED IN RECREATIONAL VEHICLES FOR MICROWAVE COOKING, MODELS MR5491G, MR5491G01, MR5492W, MR5494W01, MR5493G, MR5493G01, MR5494W, MR7491G, MR7491G01, MR7492W, MR7492W01, MR7493G, MR7493G01, MR6698WB, MR6699GB, AND MR6699SB, SOLD BY SAMSUNG FOR THE PERIOD JANUARY 1, 1999, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 12, 2003. THESE UNITS WERE PRODUCED WITH A DEFECTIVE MEMBRANE PANEL. THESE MICROWAVE OVENS HAVE THE ONE TOUCH INSTANT COOK FUNCTION SUCH AS POPCORN, POTATO, ETC.
Consequence:
AN ELECTRICAL SHORT CAN OCCUR CAUSING THE OVEN TO ACTIVATE WITHOUT PRESSING ANY KEY PADS. THIS COULD RESULT IN EXCESSIVE HEAT, SMOKE, OR POSSIBLY A FIRE.
Remedy:
SAMSUNG WILL NOTIFY ITS CUSTOMERS AND REPAIR THE PANEL FREE OF CHARGE. IN THE MEANTIME, COMSUMERS SHOULD UNPLUG THEIR MICROWAVE, IF POSSIBLE. IF THE CONSUMER IS UNABLE TO UNPLUG THE MICROWAVE, THEY SHOULD LEAVE THE DOOR AJAR UNTIL THE MEMBRANE PANEL IS REPLACED. CONSUMERS SHOULD NEVER USE THE MICROWAVE OVEN FOR STORAGE OR LEAVE ANY TOWELS, PAPER, CLOTH OR OTHER PRODUCTS IN THE MICROWAVE AFTER USE. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING OCTOBER 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT SAMSUNG SERVICE DIVISION HEADQUARTERS AT 800-932-3837.
Notes:
ALSO, CUSTOMERS CAN CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION’S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).

I didn't find any reference to this on the Samsung site.

Looks like Samsung microwaves need to be unplugged!

*Thanks to MELM who is a Moderator on the Open Roads Forum,,,,,,,, sure hope he doesn't mind me barrowing his post, but I thought this was important.
**Edit** I checked on mine and it's a Dometic. I'm going to Sticky this here for a week or so. ;D

Re:Info on RECALL for RV owners

i sold a trailer last year that had a nuker that started by itself.you would park the trailer and plug in and if you walked by a few days later it might be running. took it out and to an appliance repair shop. he had it for three months and it never started once. put unit back in and within a week it was doing it again. we just turned breaker for it off and left it alone. now i have to go out and see what kind is in the new trailer. thanks for the info. i assume i should get a notice if i have this one since tailer was new when bought.

Thanks for the info, Dennis. Just got my notice in the mail. I'll have to get out to campground where we store our trailer to see if ours falls under the recall.

Re:Info on RECALL for RV owners

I guess I got lucky and didn't know it. My Samsung MW quit in my trailer right after the warrenty ran out. I bought a similiar one at Wal Mart and adapted the brackets to make it fit. But...........I will check the new one against the bad numbers.

Exclamation Samsung Microwave? Beware!

Just a heads up..If you have a fairly new camper with a Samsung microwave ,you better keep that bad boy unplugged when not in use.The latest issue of Trailer life magazine has all the details.Built from 1999 to 2003..Call Samsung at 1 800 932 3837 for the models/serial #s that are being recalled. My brothers auto-ignited tonight arround 7 o'clock..Something shorts out and it just stays on till it melts down.....Lucky he has a smoke alarm.
