repair / replace tow harness

The truck has the factory 4 & 7 pin at the bumper, with a 6 pin added to the bed. The 6 pin was "spliced" onto the harness with those scotchlock wiretaps, which have since failed, miserably. I can find the T connectors to do a better job of connecting the 6 pin leads at the back of the 7 pin connector, but now the 7 pin harness wires are compromised, corroded, and one completely broken through. I can't find a disconnect plug anywhere until behind the front tire. Would I need to buy that whole harness to replace? Or would you cut back to good wire and solder, or use marine grade crimp connectors?
I found this, but don't recognize where those plugs would attach.

I would just cut back to good wire then solder in the new wire to the rear connector and the box at the same point.

Where was the 6 pole spliced in at?

You could put in a junction box at the splice point and work out form there..

Be sure to solder and heat shrink all connections..

Hope this helps
