Ok so I am really gettin bored waiting for my truck to show up some day :'( :'( :'(<br><br>So I got to doing some number crunching. Right now I pull with a 2000 Cummins automatic at a gross weight of 15,600#. The ratings on that motor are 215hp &amp; 420ftlb if I recall. The new dually will gross about 24,000# loaded up. So that is 53.84% more weight to be hauling around. If you add that 53.84% to the ratings of the 2000 you come up with 330hp &amp; 646ftlb. The 2003 is rated at 305hp &amp; 555ftlb, so it is a little short. But the addition of a Edge Comp or equall should easily push it to the 700 ft.lb area I am sure 8)<br><br>I know their are way more factors to this then just weight, but hey I got to do something to pass the time ya know.

Well, Mopar, I won't be able to add much, but hopefully I can throw a wrench in there somewhere if you have as much time to ponder as you say. ;D<br><br>Weight doesn't necessarily equate to horsepower and torque required to move it. If you really want to get specific, I suppose you could get into coefficients of friction and everything. At that point you're looking at quality and smoothness of bearings, roads, grades, and all that. You could probably only pull 5,000# if you were dragging it :'(, but if it was on rails and level ground behind you, you could probably take on 50,000# easy .<br><br>To paraphrase something I read in another post, &quot;This truck could pull a house down. It'll pull anything you can throw at it. The only issue is how well you can stop it.&quot; <br><br>I hope that helps. ;D

And going from pulling 1 vehicle to 2 you still really only have basically the air drag of 1.<br><br>Basically I am trying to decide if I can comforatably pull 2 full size trucks on a 36' trailer for about 5000 miles. And not get passed by ma and pa Kettle at every hill along the way

I did beef up the suspension with extra leafs, heavier shocks and I had a gear splitter and an exhaust brake. I was not very fast up the hills with that truck but now with the truck I have...I have yet to find a hill that will slow me down...I can hold the speed limit and accelerate if I want...Just gotta remember that the crest of a hill creeps up on you and will require some good braking abilities if you go over that crest too fast. Ok this is a totally stock 99 2500 with no suspension mods or engine mods. I also pulled 165 Southern Comfort custom vans that are much heavier. The only mod to do this was better tires to hold the weight.

I have a 95 3500 with a #6 plate (230 hp) and pull a 44 &amp; 53 ft enclosed trailers these trailers will gross at 15-18000 lb,the really long upgrades will slow me down about 10 mph and I could nail it to the floor to keep speed up but perfer save wear and tear on the tranny to a minamum, have never needed a exhaust brake but I do complete brake jobs on the trailers once a year and I set the trailer brakes to apply before my truck brakes...bottom line is 300 hp should work just fine and the torque these babys have will get ya home

I pulled 80,000 for years with a 238 Detroit and 400 something torque. I just noticed the Rice Lake. I delivered LNG to your town from Alabama for a couple of years to bolster the winter gas levels at your gas company. Pretty country up there, cold in the winter.

Cold, don't remind me. We just got our first snow last night it's not sticking around thank god. Would like to get my truck before the season of sand &amp; salt starts. When is spring going to get here agian ???

You see the Cummins has a 8' Boss V-Plow on it, I don't know how many people looked at that plow mount on the front of the truck wondering what the heck it was. Them people are just strange out their on the west coast :

If that is the case it won't work. The 2003 has a completely new fuel injection system. Eventually there will be some upgrades for them the the options are very limited at this time.
