I did not leave our railyard but moved 7 loaded RR cars once just locked the hubs & eased out the clutch avg wt per car 231k# not something i'd do everyday but she idin't appear to suffer any.

 

What a great read. Glad that truck driver gave some good advice about the chances of the rig making it per tires & axles. I never want to advise others to that extent (even far from it).

I got a message saying that this thread popped up. Holy pejesus.

Shop is still working great. I sold that truck. I stripped everything off of it and bought my current 07.

I have also sold the four wheeler

I drove this same stretch last year in our new shelby cobra gt500. All i can say is the bumps between haines jct and tok are alot more fun in the car. Plus it took much less time. And on the truck I did hit 50 a few times. With the car, I went over triple that speed on some open roads. Real close to 3.5 times as fast. That car is pushing 725 hp. Mileage was alot better too.

That was a great read. What were all the specific upgrades you did to your 01? I saw about the tires, what about the rims, service brakes, exhaust brake, turbos etc. I'm interested to know. I've had my 01 since 02, and it will be the last one I buy I hope.

 

Air bags, G rated tires and rims, pac brake in line exhaust brake, south bend clutch, bd twins, head studs, air compressor, thats about it. It was an 02 model.

 

I must be on the right track, then. You and I think alike as far as upgrades... and getting rid of the powerstroke.

I remember something similiar circa July of 1998. Now it was nowhere the mileage that this trip was, but the load was pretty similar. Dad bought this shop.



Its 50x100 16ft center, 14ft sides. My Uncle, Dad, and I hauled it home on my Uncles 40ft gooseneck behind his 97 2500. If I recall right it the actual weight of the shop was right at 40k pounds. Trust me, we were over. WAAAAAY over. Truck was on the bumpstops and goose egged the tires. But we made it home. Wasnt but about a 20 mile trip down the back roads. It was a couple of weeks after that Uncle Wade converted that 2500 with an Arrowcraft dually kit....

 

Funny you say that.. I remember when he posted the pics, I printed one off and hung it on the fridge at home. It stayed there for almost a year..

Looky what I found in his photo gallery. Talk about a load...

 

I want to know what kind of tires the guy had on that trailer, with that load they were carrying around 5K each, which is probably 1500 Lbs over max rating. Can't believe he made it without numerous blowouts and broken belts.

 

Slow and cool are the operating words. He drove slow and at night to avoid road heat.

The trailer tires were rated for 3500 lbs a piece. I dont remember the exact trailer weight, but I remember that the tires were overloaded by about 250 lbs per tire.
