I get a kick out of people that claim safety hazard solely based on the 'rules'. There have been many many people die, who were well within the legal bounds of the law. I bet far more minivan drivers died in intersections last year than truck drivers on the open road. And almost all truck drivers are in some sort of violation. I don't care who you are and what rules you follow, there is NOTHING safe about a 65,000 lb. truck travelling at over 90fps.

Life is dangerous.

My guess that ridof ps's load was not near as dangerous as 1/2 the 40' + motor homes pulling a saturn driven by a retiree that has multiple health problems poor vision, slow reaction time and is on a whole host of medications. Like the previous poster said so well "life is dangerous"

I thought the point would be self-explanatory. You cannot always predict a mechanical failure or the need for an emergency manuever. Operating a truck far beyond it's intended design limits severely reduces if not altogether eliminates any margin of safety. Most people have not seriously considered the very real consequences of doing this. Maybe you can get away with it a few times, maybe a hundred. That does not make it an advisable or intelligent thing to do.

Yes, life is full of risks and unfortunate things can still happen to even the most safety conscious individual. That does not mean one needs to go out and compound the risks inherently associated with life. If you feel compelled to do so, please go take up an extreme sport where the only one who ends up splattered is you.

Ah....we all like the tale of those who cheated death and destruction...who lived outside the bounds - right there on the edge - who pushed themselves and their machines to unrecorded heights.....who have the ____________ (fill in your own words, like daring, *****, stupidity, ignorance, bravado, etc) to test the very limits, and lived to tell the story !

Me...I knid of like that stuff at the movies, not in front of me, or along side of me, on the highway. The highway is MY "reality" show, and we all have to share it, and are subjected to the "choices" others have made, right or wrong.

I'm confused, he went through at least one weigh station and they let him go, they must have been satisfied with his weight and set up. So why the complaints? If anything you should be upset that the Station let him go for being illegal.

It would have been horrible if something had happened, but he had receipts showing his weight and that he wasn't fined by any authorities at a truck scale.

Sounds like he documented everything in case something happened too.

I say congrats, very impressive.

I think it was a great testament to what these dodge's can do. Yes he put a extra danger factor in play, but to me it's no worse than someone who loads there pickup bed with wood, junk, cloths, and it flys out of the bed and causes someone to crash (which happens alot, some lady got killed like that a month ago). As long as he drove cautiously, and had all the proper setup for the trailer in case it broke away, good job.

If ridofpwrstroke would have been operating an unsafe vehicle, during congested road hours, you can be sure the Canadian Department of Transport would have put him out of service. He was operating a heavied up truck with an engine retarder brake that probably had a Vehicle Registration Certificate with a Licenced Mass somewhat over the vehicle manufacturer's GVWR. For example, the GVWR for my SRW 3500 with E-rated tires is 9,900 lbs., but my legal Licenced Mass GVWR is for 11,500 lbs. His 2500 with extra heavy suspension and G-rated tires may have the same Licenced Mass GVWR as mine or higher, because the manufactures GVWR is 9,000 lbs.for a stock Dodge 2500. Also, ridofpwrstroke did a lot of hauling at low and moderate ground velocity. I have been drastically overloaded at times, but by keeping my vehicle's speed low on the road you can be safer than a truck legally loaded but traveling at the posted highway speed. Most people assume an overloaded truck will be operated in an unsafe manner and in a risky situation on the highway.
