Oil Field "Rocket Launcher"

I know what they look like, but what exactly are they for? Also from what I have seen, and I havent looked close, but is it just some large angle iron, point down?? But I have also heard of them as Rocket launcher systems, which leads me to think there is more involved.???

If anyone has one, can you take a close picture?

"Rocket Launchers" are racks in the back of a pickup and are used to carry downhole logging tools for oil & gas wells. I think this is what youre referrring to instead of a "rocket launching weapon system" - although those probably are available as well if you have enough $$

Yes, generally they are made from angle iron with ratchet straps welded the the angle, which hold the tools in the rack. And yes, sometimes the tools do fall off...

Thanks for the replys. I knew they were not weapon systems, but Ill sure but you could send a o2 tank sailing off of one...LOL. I just saw that some people called them "systems" which led me to believe that they may be on a swivel, and able to stand up. Is this the case or are they solid mounted to the head rack?

Thanks again, quick great info!!

I havent worked in wireline for a number of years now (Thank God)...but generally it is a solid unit bolted to the truck bed. There may be new designs or whatever but I kind of doubt that the racks swivel. Just my 2 cents here.

Thanks for the pics, especially that "Slum-burger" truck. That gives me a better idea of the picture from the back.

Well Now..

I would not want to be near a perf. gun when they went off.. so technically it could be considered a weapon "hauler"
