Need to buy 2 new axles

I've got a 16 foot trailer and the frame and deck are good but the front axle has a slight bend in it and the suspension is weak. There motorhome axles so there not a great axle, and the brakes are horrible. Whats a good price to spend for two 6k rated axles, or 5k axles with brakes, tires, and springs? Or should I sell my trailer and just get somthing new? I sold my brand new trailer because I thought it was overkill, come to find out I need the extra size now. I can get a new 10k trailer for $2800, and could probably sell mine for $1200 or so.

I'd go find a horse trailer lot and pick out the best pair of 6 or 7k axles you can find.

I know it's apples to oranges but I just bought a 3500lb axle with ez lube hubs and new ubolts for $72 from McKelvey in Mt. Pleasant Tx. He told me one with brakes would be $120. I thought that was pretty good pricing but I could be wrong since this is the first axle I've ever bought.

i've just heard bad things about motorhome axles since the hubs lock the wheel in place and don't have lugs. So if u brake hard the wheels can break loose and u loose braking or the wheel crumples.

I'll start checking junkyard places but I don't know of any horse trailer lots to check.

well its interesting cause my cousin hauls a 9ton with same axles and uses 14.5 hauler tires and I used for alot of years dayton rims are ok and just change brakes along with MH tires which are junk.they make a radial I used bias which arent as good. if you have heart set on new axles try northern.Bill

Try these:

I have bought from http://www.championtrailers.com/ before...great resources and customer service!

On a whim, my brother called the local auto safety house (they deal in just about anything trailer...axle, brakes, etc.) and found a Dexter axle for ~$100 vs. $150 at other trailer parts supliers. Try calling around town.

Sale it and buy a small gooseneck trailer to haul your stuff on. I will never pull a bumper trailer with my truck again.

[QUOTE=Box5;1534555]i've just heard bad things about motorhome axles

do you mean mobile home axles?

Box5 06-02-2007 11:07 PM

yea ^

If I can find some replacment mobile home axles with good brakes I'll get them, i'd like 6k rated axles and i'm not sure if MH axles come that big do they?
