NC to NE

I'm about to get out the Marine Corps and can't find a place to let me rent a trailer to haul my 79 Chevy K10 back to Nebraska. Yall know of any places that do rental's for industrial or places to buy a decent car trailer for a couple hundred bucks? I don't even know what a car trailer goes for to be honest. Any help is greatly appriciated.

You can find used flatbed trailers for $800 - $2000 dollars depending on condition and age. There are always a ton of them in my local Craigslist. I'd start there...

U-haul gets real picky about GVWR. I tried to rent a trailer from them one time to haul a new Mini Cooper and they told be I could only tow 7000 lbs.

Try checking with a US Rentals, or a United Rentals. I used on or the other out here in Nevada. Just need to ask if they will let you take it from one state and return it in another. The Craigslist idea is the next option. Just resell the trailer after you reach your destination.

Only a couple companies do one way rentals and they are costly. I found it to be cheaper to buy a trailer and then sell it when I got to the destination, than to rent. Or just have the thing shipped, that will be less expensive than the rental and the fuel it will cost you to tow it.

I bet that the k10 truck is not over 6000 lbs so the u-hual would handle it just fine i would at least check with them

I talked to Uhaul again today and got the same answer. They said I can't haul more than my truck weighs. NC requires a 1200lbs differance between the cargo weight and the pulling truck weight. If that's the case how do semi trucks roll all day? Ya know? I'm gonna start looking at craigs list and the CBT and stuff like that.

Its a insurance thing. The 7000lb limit dosent include the weight of their trailer. This was in sc not nc.

Tell them your hauling a 95 Cavalier. Go pick up the trailer and roll on. Thats what I did when I rented a tow dolly to bring home a 93 D250 Cummins I bought.

If you have a wreck then your insurance co and U-hauls will fight with each other as to who is responsible. In the end you face a reall good chance at being held lieable and having to cover all cost out of pocket. Even if the accident is not technically your fault, because you lied on the rental agreement and pulled a load not condoned by U-haul, you could be looking at a very timely and costly litigation.

I've been looking on the Craigslist like yall said. Found a couple that I really like for about 1400. Thinking on going for it. Any body know the Towing cap on a 92 W250 Single cab, Getrag 5 speed.

Check with Kaufmann Trailers. They have a factory in NC and NE. You might get lucky and they might need a trailer of theirs moved from NC to NE. I know they move stuff around...won't hurt to ask.
