The only reason for insurance is if you are planning to wreck.

Don't wreck and you can get along fine with no insurance.

I wish the highways were completely "drive at your own risk", get hit, you're just hit, no lawyers, no cops, just push them out of the way and call a wrecker, totally no-fault.

Sounds good, but then we need seperate highways for those over 60, those under 21, those that drink, and those that operate cellphones.

So you don't need car insurance if you are planning on wrecking, well I had better go get some today because I am planning on rollin my truck like 3 or 4 times and taking out a few other cars in the crash.

If you have to get a DOT number, and you probably will, I believe the statutory minimum is $750k.

Legally you'll need 750,000$ unless the GCWR of those trailers and your truck is going to be equal or less than 10,000, then you need $300,000 - this is assuming you are going interstate.

Watch out for Progressive's 300 mile radius clause!! I had them, could not get them to change. TT's were favored over 5th wheels - why ?? I dunno. Seems to me a 5th wheel setup is safer than a TT.

Progressive is the company that I got quoted from...1700 per year for 100/300 cargo is 1000 for 30,000 coverage. Does that sound right?

avdunn, you are really leaving out a lot of details:

is this a for hire operation? are you interstate? or staying within your state? where do you live? where is the trailer manufacturer? what is the highest gvwr of the trailers? and what is the gvwr of your truck?

Check out http://xj.cdevco.net/ - center column for details about getting into for hire hauling.
