how level is level?
 

After I hook-up my 5th to my truck my camper has about 7 inches between the bed rails and the camper. When I measure the frame of the camper to the ground I am about 2.5 inches higher in the front. Not quite level but close, what are the tolerences for this to ensure the load is evenly distributed? I'm pulling a 29 foot 02 Cougar.

I have always tried to be within an inch front to back. A lot will depend on how heavy that back axle is loaded when you are hooked up. The main problem with running a trailer that is not level is overloading one of the two axles over their design limits. I would expect that each situation is different depending on trailer weight and axle ratings.

A bumper pull trailer has to be pretty close to level to avoid induced sway.

Your 5er may be more forgiving in this respect, but as stated above, be careful of overloading that rear axle. You won't like it when the inevitable blowout wipes out the rear half of your RV! :o

Actually, most fivers will balance the weight between the axles due to the arm between the axles. However, I would sure lower your hitch one inch and keep the 6" bed clearance. It should help porpoising. The ideal is to run level on most units.

That's interesting...I've seen a few people here who don't seem to care that their 5th wheel isn't balanced! Maybe they're just moving them across town for a friend, but still...

6" is enough room between the truck and the fiver.
