Question How to charge camper battery while driving?

How can I charge the camper battery while driving without the chance of draining the main truck batteries when parked using the camper? Is there some way that I can charge but yet seperate the systems?

Thanks for any advice,
Dave Smith

Run your hot and ground wires to the camper battery. When you park, disconnect them at your hitch. Don't forget.

Two ways will work well. The isolator works fine or you can put a relay in the line fired off the ignition. That will work fine too. Isolator is best. Remember what an isolator is to start with. A wire comes from the main terminal of the alternator and goes through a diode to the rest of the system. An isolator just adds another wire through a diode so that the power cannot back up. I have some surplus 100 amp diodes and use them instead of an isolator. To make this work, disconnec the 12v wire from the plug, run a new wire from the isolator to the plug. Power will go out when the alternator is charging, but the batteries will not see this wire.

I don't know if this would work for you.....but I have 2 batterys in my enclosed car hauler trailer that operate 2 winches and I need to keep them charged....so I have a Battery plug thats used on big rigs with electric tailgates it looks like the 7 way plug for lights and brakes but its made for battery power only....I have it wired to my truck batterys and can disconnect it when I dont need to charge my trailer batterys....I do have a 50 amp fuse in the line in case of a short so I dont burn up my truck wiring....if its not in use they make a special holder for these plugs to keep them from shorting out your trailer batterys
