truck looks tiny, lol.

Camarogenius 03-15-2007 09:39 PM

It's a cellphone tower. When I was called, I was told it weighed 27,500. When I got there, the guy in the office said the 6 main column sections weigh 30,000 alone.
My customer was in an emergency position, they had to have that that day, so they could get it painted and shipped the next day, so I hauled it anyway.
I'm plated for 45,000, which means I can haul up to 28,000 on the trailer. I didn't scale it, but I tghink it weighed between 37,000 and 40,000.
It only went about 20 miles.

how did the truck do?

Camarogenius 03-16-2007 06:01 AM

Braking was great, and it handled okay, but power wasn't up for the task. I'm going to address the power problem, but I'll never pull anything that heavy again.

I am glad you have a dually

Diesel Dummy 03-16-2007 06:47 PM

Might have been heavy but did it pay good enough to do it, also if it did not sounds like you had the ability to get more money to do it. I can tell you first hand they might have been in a jam but if the money wasnt good they would have made it good. Just dont feel like you have to do it because they are in a tight spot, your in business for yourself now and money talks. If you take chances like that and it is not worth the time or money you wont be doing it long, the right dot guy would have had a field day with you on that one. Good luck and hope you have TONS of sucess. LOL

I saw it on pirate too. I'm looking forward to what the guys over here have to say about it. Personally, I don't have enough experience pulling anything more than my buggy so I don't feel qualified to say if it's ok or not.

I only got one thing to say when you start talking about upping the power:

It paid very well.
That picture appears a bit more dramatic than it actually was.
I'm having a ton of fun egging it on over on pirate.
I wouldn't advise a novice to pull it, but I've got plenty of experience, so it wasn't dangerous. That said, I'll never pull anything that heavy again.

Very cool. It is nice to see big loads being pull with a Cummins. [roll]
