Hauling wedge car hauler with 3/4 Single Axle??

Hey I’m new to here. I currently own a Chevy 3500 dually that I haul a wedge gooseneck 35ft car trailer with. I’m interested in downgrading to a Single axle diesel ( A lot more friendly to unhook and use to drive around ). I was wondering if I’m getting into to much weight on rear axle with a non duality. Is this possible and is it safe with a single axle? All help and answers are appreciated.

I haul dually payloads with a SRW. (like 2tons) The main thing is the axle is 'downgraded' in spec sheets because of the factory tires. I run 3800-4000# tires instead. I also run an axle 5" wider than stock for stability.

HTH.

EDIT: if you're subject to commercial rules, you likely won't be able to haul (loaded) legally.

I’m rated under 26,000, I don’t want to change axles in truck, would it be illegal with upgraded tires?

It's about your truck's gvwr and axle rating. The pin weight is direct payload on the truck.

If you take that dually truck, and bolt on single wheels/tires with enough capacity... no violation. The trucks ratings don't change.

The SRW version of that truck may not have enough GAWR and/or GVWR to carry the pin weight. So you can be over on the truck, but still be below 26k#. Knowmsayin?

What is my max load on a single axle?

Where do I find the max load that can be legally hauled on the rear axle of the truck?

Door jamb sticker. The 'rear GAWR' spec.

Bump* so as long as it’s under The weight the tires are rated for I should be fine…. But how do I know how much weight I have on my axle? And know that it’s safe to haul my 2 car gooseneck wedge trailer with single axle????

Highway scale... or some places like the dump, or an aggregate supplier/quarry may have a private scale.

So I’m looking at a 3500 single axle that has a rear gawr of 7,250 pounds, do you’ll think that would be legal with 2 car gooseneck wedge trailer?

Depends on what the pin weight is of the wedge when loaded.

You also want to make sure you have the 7250# covered with your two rear tires.

So as long as tires are rated at or above 7,250 I should be good then, I don’t figure the pin weight would go over, it’s just a 5,000 pound empty wedge trailer, so about 12k when loaded. So I figure that should be safe on pin weight

Yup. Just check the mfr specs carefully on the exact size you're looking at. "Load E" tires vary in actual weight capacity.

I like 285/75R16E (3750#) and 315/75R16E (3860#). I also had some Toyo 295/70R17E at 3970#.

Anybody that's ever lost a single driver from under a jointed rig, or blown a rim by putting heavy tires on them and inflating past the rim's capacity would just run the dual rig and be happy. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. Present dually rig pulling a double trailer can be driven easily and safely by my small wife.
