hauling commercial equipment to canada

Have any of you hauled any commercial equipment to Canada? I have to haul a trailer to Canada. It is built to heat and repair asphalt. It is brand new and I will have the statement of origin for it. Is this a real PITA? Should I hire a broker to get this through customs?
Thanks
Eric

A broker is the easy way to go as the item will have to be categorized for duty and tarriffs. The broker then assumes the responsability for collections of said costs from the importer or manufacter as per sales agreement. Even if the item fall under free trade origin of materials must be disclosed to qualify. If you are the manufacturer/ importer you should call Canada Customs and they will direct you to the forms needed to import, classifacation, duty rate, GST, also you will need to supply a US export documentation package before crossing into Canada. You will need a Canadian broker to process it through Canadian Customs . This might help . http://www.livingstonintl.com/trader...tion=published
I go to Canada everyweek and have barcodes and fax sheets from Livingston . I fax paperwork to Livingston from the shipper and usually when I call 3 or 4 hours later I'm told I'm cleared and can proceed to the border . For a 1 time deal , though I'd hire a carrier that hauls to Canada on a regular basis . Canada will not allow you in if you have had a DUI or most felony convictions . To get back in the U.S. you will need a birth certificate to prove citizenship .
