Gooseneck to 5th wheel adapter

Does anyone know which manufacturers state that you can use a 5th wheel to gooseneck adapter on a their camper without tearing up the pin box? I'm looking at getting a camper but don't want a 5th wheel hitch. This isn't something that's an option as I'll buy a tag trailer instead. I know some manufacturers definately say not to use them but others say it's alright.
Thanks for the help.

I would check whith the trailer mfg you have in mind, with that said I have a neighbor that has had a converted goose on three trailers, Fleetwood,Nu-Way, and a Hitchhiker. Each trailer has went to Alaska each year of use with no problems. I strongly believe that it would be wise to consult with the mfg. There are some factory made convertors that state no problems. I have seen some mess up the pin box but it was on the extended pins. Goodluck,,,Rick

my dad has one on his trailer, he pulls it with a ford 1.5 ton with a CAT motor with gobbs of power and not so soft suspension....has held up nice for about 5 years now, I believe it is manufactured by bulldog, it is in NV and I am in WA so sorry if the manufacture is wrong, but it works good for him.

And if I could point you to individuals whose 5th wheels have suffered structural damage (failure of pin box to frame welds) when equipped with straight (vertical) Leland Engineering pin boxes, would that make any difference?

Some are lucky using these gooseneck adapters and haven't had a problem yet. Others aren't as fortunate and have suffered frame damage. If you're thinking of doing it, why not e-mail or call the technical support or engineering group of your 5th wheel manufacturer and get their opinion, especially if you're going to expect them to warrant your RV.

My response was directed to your allegation that only extended pin boxes are subject to failure when used with gooseneck adapters and that straight ones were immune. That's what I quoted, and that's what I responded to.

Many mfg are offering gn or fifth wheel(forest river for one) as no charge options. Do your research. What type camper you looking at.

I don't have any trailer/camper make in mind currently. I was interested in knowing which if any say it's alright to use the adapter because that is the brand I will go look at. I figure (note I say I) that any manufacturer that will state it acceptable to use an adapter must be a fairly reputable company that knows the limits of their products and have tested them to back their statement up. Sort of like Airstream is (or was a couple years ago) the ONLY manufacturer that did actual crash testing of a camper. The was from a National Highway Traffic Safety testing facility that I toured. With most campers having leaky roofs and windows a common problem I don't want a ripped out pin box to be a problem for me.
Thanks,
Rob

I see, no problem just some times guys seem to pick apart some statements on here. I have a close friend who works on RV's for a living and have never seen a non extended one rip up or break any welds that said , I would be more leaning towards a non extended pin box to put a goose adapter on, but if they do it too,[ the non extended ones] then I would go with the mfg suggestions.
