Im looking at A 2004 dually that has A goose neck hitch welded to the frame,and I would need A fith wheel hitch installed.I dont know if the welded on brackets would be in the way of the fith wheel hitch brackets.I dont know what brand hitch is on the truck. Thanks.

 

Your question is hard to answer without seeing the hitch that is welded to the truck and the 5th wheel hitch you want to add.

I will try to get some pics,the truck is about an hour away from me. The fithwheel hitch i have is a 16k reese.The cross members for the gooseneck seem closer together than the reese rails.

 

I bet the reese will still fit, as you said the goose plates are usually closer together. You can buy a new set of mounting hardware and rails for the reese if you don't want to take yours out. And the goose wouldn't hurt to leave it as you never know you might need it one day. Goodluck,,RIck

 

Thanks for the replies,I might put an offer on the truck sunday.I wouldnt mind having both hitches if I can but i'm woried about making an offer not being sure that I can install the fithwheel hitch.

 

That is what torches and welders were made for.

 

I would personally just stay away from a truck that has a hitch welded on.

There's enough trucks out there.

Mine ended up having a hitch welded on. The hitch was welded to the TOP of the frame rails and the wiring harness looks like a rats nest. Took me a few days of anally retentive grinding to get it off and flat enough to put another proper hitch on there.

 

They make an adapter that goes from a fifth wheel to a goose neck. You might want to check into this alot of trucks were running them in New orleans when I was there, and I was told by several drivers that they would never go back to a fifth wheel. Just a thought.
