FRP Gooseneck Trailer - Weights / Towing
 

I am looking to pick up my 1st gooseneck car hauler and was wondering if anyone out there has any experience with Renegade FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plywood) versus conventional Aluminum skinned trailers.

This may be a moot point in that I will be using a 3500 dually (see specs in signature), but since the FRP trailer is a 40' Stacker (4 cars) and the rumor is they are a lot heavier than a conventional aluminum trailers. Any BENEFITS, COMPARISONS, THOUGHTS, RUMORS, etc.... out there?

Note: My concern is running the stock truck with a full load and having issues with hills, etc.... I estimate 26k fully loaded with truck included!

I don't think you will have a problem. Maybe get some gauges and an Edge EZ for the "standard output"

You may be pushing the limits when you also figure in tools fuel and all the other stuff we haul in case you mite need it

At 26001 GCVW you'll need a class A CDL and everything else that goes with it, insurance, anual inspections, state authorities, DOT numbers, logs.....and the list goes on and on

I've seen alot of stacker trailers that move race cars.....but they are being pulled by a class 6-8 tractor

My trailer is only a 44ft but it has been loaded heavy at times 29000 GCVW and hills can become a problem if I cant get a running start at it....I dont have any problems on freeways I do loose some speed on big hills but I watch my gauges too

Sounds like as long as I keep the weight under 26000, I should be good to go, minus the 1 or 2 times a year I may go fully loaded :-) [very rare as this is much more than I need - normally I only pull 1 or 2 cars at a time].

with the clas a requirement it aint what weight your hauling its what the the truck and trailer are factory tagged for is what they go by. for example my trailer has two 10k axles and my truck can tow about 16k as a gn so i am at 20k +16k = 36k makes me a class a it doesn't matter if i am empty or loaded thats the way the dot sees it
