Factory wire for Brake Controller??

Here is one for the experts. Believe it or not we bought a new truck and it did not come with the factory hitch or 7 way trailer hookup. We bought it and the dealer installed it. I installed the new prodigy brake controller. I purchased the new dodge harness to make it easy. Well everything works in the back except the electric brake (blue wire) The controller just shows 2 dots. You move the manual lever and it says nc, which means the trailer is not hooked up. I get power out of the prodigy on the blue wire when I press the brake, got it on the other side of the connector also. One problem is there is a blue wire just hanging there not connected to anything. I traced this all the way back to the 7 way. Question, is the wire supposed to be connected to the fuse box or what. I think the service dept at the dealer screwed something up. I'd take it to them but it is 50 miles away. Any ideas?? ??? ???

Coming off the Prodigy, it should go back to the 7 pin for the trailer. The Prodify power is fused someplace.

Chris

Re:Factory wire for Brake Controller??

This recently happened to a friend under similar circumstances. The factory controller plug (which ALL trucks have) contains a blue wire that runs to the firewall to a plug (C217) just behind the front wheel splash shield on the driver's side. You will note the blue wire coming into the plug from the instrument panel but no blue wire coming out of the plug to the rear of the truck. The wiring kit comes with the blue wire and should go into this connector. I don't know if the kit wire comes with the proper terminal for the connector or not. It is likely that the blue (brake) wire from the kit harness is not connected to the blue wire in the controller harness. Try tracing the blue wire from the mopar harness forward to see where they did (or did not) connect it. Gee I hope I explained that right. Good luck.

Casey

I had the same problem. If you don't have a factory trailer harness, the blue wire just runs from the plug under the dash to the driver's wheel well and stops in a wireing harness. I just ran my own blue wire from the rear plug to the the driver's wheel well, and cut the blue wire in the harness and spliced them together. It works great, without having to buy the factory trailer harness which is around $100+ I think.

Re:Factory wire for Brake Controller??

I just fixed my problem with the wiring an hour ago. I had the same problem, no power to the electric brakes. Like everyone said There's a light blue wired coiled by the Power Distribution box (drivers side under hood) You need to cut a small hole in the large rubber gromet where all the other wires are going. Push the wire through, grab underneath and connect to the light blue wire( it should have a little white tag that says Electric brake) Do not cut that wire in half. If you can get one of those little connection splicers ( Any hitch store should have them). Crimp it down! That should complete the circuit.
It's really easy once you see whats going on. Just remember Light Blue to Light Blue
