Re:Duallies verses Singles

I hope you never have a flat tire on the truck rear with the single tire back aft. If you do you'll be looking for a dually kit.
Thats a big 5fer on a single rear tire.

Dave

Re:Duallies verses Singles

I pull a 30 ft lta bed goose neck on a 2001 2500 shortbed 4x4 loaded to 15,000 at times and have no complaints other than all of the other goofey drivers on the road. I don't know about the 3g trucks but the 2g's use the same chassis and drive train for 3/4 and 1 tons. Just don't over load past your tire ratings. this is just my 2 cents but if I was towing that load all over the place i woul buy a MDT like a 330 pete.
for what you are doing I would not worry.

Jason

Nagi:

Contratulations! I'm really glad that the dealer finally came around. You will grin every time you tow that fiver with the dually, knowing how close you came to almost having the perfect truck, instead of having the perfect truck.

DeWain

Nagi,
Good deal. Sounded a little shady not being able to canx the deal. Are there any other things that you had questions about ? Now would be the time to do the research.

You are gonna love the training wheels with the trailer behind you.

PISTOL

Re:Duallies verses Singles

To my knowledge they still have not approved the exhaust brake for the 48RE. I also hear that the cost of the unit and installation is going to be is the area of $2,000, with cost of unit, installation and tax. This has been discussed on other threads.

Nagi,
If you are really serious about getting enough truck for a 37' 5er with three slides I would get a very accurate idea of what it weighs.
I am just thinking based on what I have read you still may not have enogh truck even with a 4.10 rear end and a dually. If you figure 23,000lbs gvcwr less 8,000lbs give or take for a dually ready to tow that leaves 15,000lbs.
I am curious what a trailer like you described really weighs?
FWIW Randy

Re:Duallies verses Singles

Nagi,
Since you are not commited to a truck right now you should do your homework. The only reason I mention any of this is all your numbers sound low to me.
You should click on the search funtion and type in "empty weight" and look at what some of the weight's mentioned are.
Maybe somebody will chime in and list their weight of a 2003 quadcab dually cummins with a full tank of gas and a fifth wheel hitch in it.
Next time I pull in somewhere they have a scale, I will weight my truck. I have always figured 8,000 lbs for the truck ready to go. I will be very happy if mine weights 7000 lbs.
FWIW Randy
Re:Duallies verses Singles

check these figures that I provided earlier

My Truck Your Truck
Truck dry weight 6256 6382
fuel 238 245
2 passengers 274 274 ??
Slider hitch 212 175 ??non-slider
tube steps-mat 80 80
My stuff 70 70
Total 7130 7226

My pin weight 2025 3000 ?20% of 15,000
Total 9155 10226
GVWR 9900 9900
Over/(under) (745) 326

If you look on the Dodge site and compare the difference between the SRW SB and the Dually LB 2/4 you will find that it is 455lbs. His truck dry weight of 6850lbs (web site). In my case I have 874lbs of fuel, hitch, passengers and stuff that would bring the Dually to (6850+ 874) 7724lbs. Add his 3000 pin weight it would bring his weight to 10,724. The GVWR of the Dually is 11,500lbs. That is of course if the weights are correct and he adds what I have. His GCW would be (7724 + 15000) or 22724lbs. GCWR = 23,000. He would be approaching his GCWR and have 776 left for the GVW.
That is what I see. What do others see? It is a very complicated issue.

Re:Duallies verses Singles

Ken, my 3500 has a GVWR of 12000; GCWR of 23000. Is the difference 4x4? you listed yours as 9900 GVWR.

Re:Duallies verses Singles

Hi
My truck is a SRW so 9900 is correct. I used the SRW as an example earlier in this thread when he was looking to purchase the Long Bed SRW truck. I believe he is looking for a 2/4 DRW so 11,500 is correct. Yes I believe the 4/4 is 12000 but the 4/4 weighs more.

This thread is really going to get interesting. Lots of info and a great learning experience.

Subjects such as this show just how easy it is to make an expensive mistake in truck selection. It is a tough decision.
